Hey robdog i have a r31 diff in my 1200 ute thats 1 cm shorter either side ,it can be done just tell the guy whos doing it that you want it shorter than the 1200 diff. The only problem i found about doing this was you need almost zero offset wheels to fit nicly that means chasers are out of the question unless you want to run bolt on spacers. im running 15x8s with 195s and a offset of +4 and man its a tight fight but looks awsome

The normal method is to switch short for long axles and cut a foot off the long axle. This means the axle has enough diameter to cut a new spline. If you want to shorten both axles it will cost at least $100 more, and will likely need another long axle to be bought.

You can't shorten the axles only an inch, you can shorten them 3+ inches because that is past the undercut after the factory cut spline.

datodude is spot on with his explination , if you do all the assembly , the fabrication and machining should only cost around $650.00+gst, WARDS

The worst of the labour is cutting all the #OOPS#ty brackets off.
The machining is fiddly and chews through the cutting tools at a fast rate.
