Hey guys...finally got a tail shaft for my sedan. Put a H165 rear end in and now that i have a tail shaft its not really working out.

Tried fitting it all up and the tail shaft is too short! I looked through the wiki and its said it would be too long - http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=17848

The tail shaft has the H150 bolt pattern on one end so im pretty sure it is a H150. Then when i insert the other end into the gearbox it all fits up but the its not sitting all the way into the gearbox. Can anyone help me out?

Pictures would probably help so ill get them up tonight or tomorrow.

It is normal for there to be excess where the shaft goes into the gearbox. It's not heaps of excess but there is a fair bit. If it is hard up against the box it'll slam up against it and ruin things.

When you accelerate and put power down or go over bumps the shaft needs a little bit of space to move back and forward.

I guess it comes down to how much extra there is? Yeah a picture would be helpful.

H165 I would think requires a slightly shorter shaft than H150 -- the difference in the diff is 20 mm, or 10 mm radius change. But the pinion shaft and/or flanges are different lengths so overall it may match.

Clyons8 - i think there is about 1cm of space between the gearbox input and the tail shaft. Will take pictures and upload hopefully tonight.

DD - it has the H150 bolt on pattern and then the other end looks like the H165. It seems right but im just worried about the gap.

Thanks for the input guys..will put pics up soon.
