Does anyone know if i need to modify my standard cross member to put in a L18 or can i get away with the standard one or will i have to get a new one made all together??

You can either modify the crossmember (the traditional method)

or modify the engine brackets, and leave the crossmember alone.

Depending on the oil pan you use, the crossmember need no modification. Otherwise people mod either the pan or the xmember.

There are many ways to do it.

an L series will not bolt to the stock crossmember...something will need to be modified

thanks heaps for your replies,

the guy i bought it off had it in a 1200 but when i asked him if the cross member had been modified, he was under the impression it was a completely different cross member, but i am not sure if he was correct, it may sound dumb but is there anyway of telling if the engine mounts have been modified??

Yes, just compare them to the stock engine mounts. There were basically two types
