Hey people.

I want to put an A12 that I have into a 1000 sedan. I'm pretty sure it fits straight in with the original mounts, etc. But I was wondering, will I be able to use the wiring from the 1000? As I no longer have the wiring from the A12?
Just thought I'd see if anyone knows, before I start getting into it.

Cheers

is it a early model a12 (dizzy at the front) or later model one with dizzy under cyl 3?

early model straight in ( a 1000 member will clarify this im sure)
a late model needs mods like a14/15 into 1200 (plates to the mounts) as couple inches distance from mounts to engine rubbers.

elecs should be same to alternator and dizzy.

If its the early type ie dizzy at front
then its a straight bolt in. At least mine was.
Wirig is the same. you only have three wires tot he alternator and two two to the dizzy from memory.

Nothing special.

Just make3 sure you check the clutch all lines up properly as the 1200 and 1000 clutch systems are slightly different, with different thrust bearings and fork systems. Not really a prpblem, more just something to check is all.

No, none of the early A12 have the distributor at the back. They are all under spark plug #1.

1974 model year, approximately July 1973 production line. But all the 120Ys had new-style engine.

Yes, I just did this. The tall-on-both-sides crossmember is for 1974 and newer. But you can fit an early A12, easy-peasy.

The original 1200 short-on-one-side crossmember mount 'horns' lean forward 35mm farther than the newer 1200 ute crossmember.

Ah good to know.

So we might say:
A12 old: Datsun 1200 until perhaps 1975
A12 new: starting with B210 in 1973. Later 1200 utes.

I'm not sure, but I think the A10-powered cherries also have the old style engine though 1979. In other words I suspect they never revised the A10 block.
