With Datsun 1200 LCAs (lower control arms), you can bolt on B310/A10 ball joints. Then most Datsun-Nissan struts bolt right on (Stanza, 280ZX, etc).

So why would you use anything else? Why swap the LCAs for some other model (e.g Stanza LCA or R31 LCA)?

As far as I can tell, the B110 B310 LCA are identical:

NOTE: Voilet/Stanza A10 LCA and Sunny B310 LCA have the same part number, which was also used by the 1985-up Sunny Truck. They certainly look identical B110, B210, B310/Stanza.

With the B310/Stanza ball joints, it lengthens the track a bit, gaining more negative camber.

This could explain why RSR100 could put stanza stuff directly onto his 1200 Ute LCAs. His must have been newer Ute ones.

Remember most of us old timers learned these tricks in the late 80s.
The newer 1200 ute LCAs just werent around back then..

I will have to keep my eyes open for a pair. I dont like what Stanza LCAs do for steering geometry.

Yeah the late ute LCA's use a different ball joint or put another way the bolt hole spacings are different from earlier 1200 Lca's. If you look at steering arms the early 1200 ones wont go over the ball joint but the later ones do as do late 120y steering arms and there identical to late ute. The early castor rods wont fit either due to bolt hole spacing again. Hence why we use late 120y or late ute ones.

So there is a difference in the early and late 1200 LCAs?
1. early 1200 & early B210
2. late 1200 & late B210

And these ball joints use different bolt-hole spacing?

To answer the first question yes there is a difference between late and early 1200 LCA's. As for number 1. I cant confirm if early 1200 and early B210 are the same but i know Number 2.late 1200 and B210 are the same. If what you have pictured is an early 1200 Ball joint next to a late 1200 Ball joint then yes they are different.

Thanks. I've been looking through the parts catalogs, and it seems there are only two LCA for all B110, B120, B210, and B310:

Early LCA -- 1970-1975
Late LCA -- 1976 and up, bolts: M10 x 1.25

* All LCA use the same bushing 1970-1982
* Ball joints are different for the two types

Additionally, they used two different ball joints for the late type LCA:
Ball joint: H7400
Ball joint: W5000

B310 Sunny came with either type. B210 & Late 1200 ute (up to 1994) only used the older style.

As usual, USA B210s are different (they used the L14/L16 PB210 suspension including LCA, bushing and Ball Joint).

Quite correct. The later stuff uses the 10mm boilts, verses the 8mm early stuff. They also used a different castor rod too.
When swapping the later LCA (with longer ball joint) either the 1200 ute, (or possibly early b310?) steering arms need to be used too. (The longer B310 ball joint uses a larger taper than the early stuff)
I wonder if the SWB and LWB utes use the same steering arm? (In theory they wouldn't, if they were to maintain optimum ackerman angles)

Yes, short-body and long-wheelbase utes use the same steering arms, H7400/H7440, same as all 1976-up B210 and even some JDM B310 uses them.

Later LCA is 1976-up (October 1975 for commercials, B210 Van & B120 ute).
