Bad stuff abounds in my datsun land- electrics
Guest_
Well went to supafattos lastnight til this morn and to Tomoz too bout 220km round trip last night. Driving from Tomoz back to supafattos lights started flickering once or twice flat road didn't think anything of it as that was it. Get to nicks chat then about to leave start car up and tacho rises and falls with only car idling. Lights flicker. Mmmm. Notice to alt bracket snapped... Not good.
Change alt at 12am in street- thanks nick for tools and rest. Drive home bout 5 km down Rd same thing but ongoing. Drop speed to below 80kmh it disappeared. Pull into next servo thinking alt wires loOse. Nup all good. Check battery connections any wire connections all good. Drive again. same thing.

So drove 60kms with these symptoms and just got home..... Left at 7pm get home 345am.

Pullup to lane car dies- won't start. Disco net trailer push it 2-300m home. Go back try car- nup fan works but hard wired through relay to battery. Nothing else works!!!
No lights, ignition nothing. Check fuses on radio fuse blown replace still don't start.
Push it 2-300m home and up drive way bump.....

Long stroy but I figure must be a connection some where or something. Fuseable link looks fine too.

Wish I was good at elecs. Any tips on what to look for to fix?

Looks like I won't make haunted hills after all

Sorry, I have no idea. Electrics really aren't my thing. Last time I had similar issues to your situation, it was the voltage regulator, little box thing on the engine bay side wall.

YOU DRAMA QUEEN!!!

are you serious?

my list:
Fit Extinguisher
Build a stone shield for the trailer
Fit a topgear LSD into the diff centre
Get wheel Alignment
Check clutch fluid (under dash)
Paint and fit trims that are missing
Clean up heaps of wiring from the conversion
Fit a harness bar and mount a harness

and whats your list?
clean earth terminals
charge battery
put a multimeter on it to check alternator is charging at correct volts
any other life threatening items?

Also need oil change, throw out bearing making noise, rappers need adjusting ( never done them so I don't have a clue)

Dons got enough going on. Will just pass hc and try sort it. There's that weird vibration still so throw out bearing now too - could be gear box related maybe

easy easy easy,

could do all that at the hill climb while we are waiting for it to start... not that we will cause you have ages to fix all that before hand! owners manual tells you how to do valve gaps, oil change is simple, who cares about throw out noise i have one of them too

tacho is going spaz because your volts are... it will most likely be the regulator, put a multi meter on it to check volts when running, anything above 15volts and the reg is stuffed,12V the alternator is stuffed 14-14.7 odd and everything is ok, start looking for bad connections and clean all terminals

especially grounds or on your side of the planet - "earths"! 1200rallys probably right - check voltage - black lead on test meter goes to - batt. terminal, + goes to big white?? wire on back of alternator - thats where you'll get your reading of under or over 15V.

I thought you aussies were all rugged car survialists, whats this wimpin out & not adjusting your valves

I had a similar issue with fuses blowing and strange things going on when the positive lead came loose on the battery in my old HJ wagon. (Holiday in Kangaroo Island and their awesome roads....) Check all the main power connections.
