Alternator is Noisy

Hi Guys

My B310 Alternator is noisy,what would be the cause ? any suggestions ?

For the "Alternator is Noisy", it's probably one of the two bearings:

Rear bearing:

or front bearing:
Open in new window


Open in new window


See Alternator for details about repacking or replacing. Most likely only one of them is bad.

How is a clunk in the transmission related to a noisy alternator? His second question was about the transmission, but now he has edited the original post: "Edited by Sumith on 2011/12/7 20:08:25"

None of the transmission stuff was in this post when I saw. My apilogies. Thought it was a bit anal from a moderator.


Get another alternator or yours rebuilt sumith.

Yes, in USA a good used alternator is as inexpensive as $13.

But if you cannot find an inexpensive one where you live, you can easily dissassemble the alternator to inspect it. The rear bearing is easy to replace, but the front bearing is pressed on.

Hi unfamilia

Actualy I posted both the questions in the same thread so dd wanted me to open a new thread that is not related to alternator but to transmission, so i edited my original post and opened another thread,so no worries lets cool down,apologize for in all the way we all for datsuns .

Thanks, here things are damn expensive i will see how does it go and see replacing those racers or can be used for few months since i am almost stuck on my financial since i have to repaint my b210 too..

Hi Guys

As My Mechanic it is not the Alternator which is noisy but the Ac Compressor.The Ac Pully is just turning with the engine running but no load on the engine untill i switch on ac Button, is it the way to connect ?

Yes, that is normal. The A/C bearings turn all the time.
1. Idler/adjuster bearing
2. A/C compressor bearing
