What kind of problem does it have in the morning?

Causes of "running on" (continuing to run when ignition is turned off) are most commonly these:

* Air leak -- leak at manifold gasket, carburetor gasket, or any of the assorted vacuum diaphragms such as the distributor, air cleaner flap motor, or carburetor choke-pulloff.

* Idle too high. Should be 750 rpm or lower.

Note that pre-ignition is a totally different problem.

when you put those shiny new points in, did you check and adjust the dwell angle or just the points gap? Because timing will cause the engine to "run on" all by itself, but if the carby is overfuelling, or the accelerator pump is leaking (pushing raw fuel into the intake when the throttle is closed) then this will exaccibate the problem. Another trap for young players is the advance weights in the dizzy sticking. This will advance your timing at low revs (bad) and may cause running on and preignition.
Hard starting in the morning may also be due to timing or fuel issues, but it could also be something else entirely.

if your carby has a anti-dieseling valve make sure its getting power when the ignition is on, i had a problem with my car starting wouldnt idle under like 1300 rpm and would run on abit and found that the wire had broken off the valve

Darren, we still don't know what problem you are having.

You can describe the symptoms?

The engine switch-off problem is the exact opposite of the anti-diesel valve being off, so it seem there is confusion among us.

Can you explain the dwell angle ?

After driving and Parking up the car at nights, the carburettor runs dry.
Leaving me to tcrank the engine about 5 times on mornings to get it to start,i also have to be pumping the accelerator pedal before it could start
After I get the engine Started,it works fine troughout the day.
