what is a good cylinder head to use. I am looking for a big port head or one that can be ported. I currently have a h95 A15 smog head. I have seen h75, h72 and 728 heads yet not sure what number head is best.

728 heads are round port (small port).

In USA, H75 and H72 are smog heads. The H95 is superior to H75/H72 open chamber head, even though the ports are slightly smaller.

The best big port heads are the A12T and A12GX heads, they have the largest ports and highest RPM of all stock heads.

Otherwise the H89 head is a good one. It is the classic closed-chamber oval-port head. The ports are smaller than A12GX.

These are all import (non-North America) heads. So look on eBay, pay for shipping from overseas or create a Classifieds here on Datsun1200.com.

depending where you theres one for sale a H75 if you look in classifieds his name is revvhead the way to make these high comp like the h89 is to shave them a certain amount to remove the open chamber. Removing too much meat is an issue but it doesnt seem to harm the A series heads as long as you run a good cooling system with good quality brown toyota coolant or similar.

Is that do-able D?
I have an H75 head that already has 40 thou off it. I've been contemplating taking it all the way down, till it's closed chambered. I'd run it on an A14, with E15et pistons. They have 10X the bowl volume of standard pistons. So I'd run zreo deck, and cram boost down it's neck.

So Aside from too high a CR, can the H72 survive that much taken off it?

I had a H75 that was shaven all the way and did have ga16 slugs (almost the same as the e15et ones) and ran very well, very good economy and torque. That engine is still in a vanette and with all the heat it gets under the seat the owner we see often at markets says it goes like a tractor without a hitch for 8 years now.
The old van launches like a bull which is surprising considering the weight, induction and antiquated mainly blocked pollution gear.
Its not uncommon to do this mod Bart, Im sure youll have success as the e15et pistons have similar rings as the A series eg 2mm, 2mm and 4mm

Good to know.
Plus the E15et pistons are of a very beefy construction. Nice thich crowns and skirts. No holes in the oil control ring grooves. A really strong looking piston. Tough as nails.
