Hi I just recently bought a datsun 1200 and have seen all your datsuns with ca18 motors and was wondering how hard it is to do and also if a sr20 motor is better to put in

Maddat do kits for ca or sr but in most states you can only engineer a sr20de in a 1200 which is y a lot of people go ca18det

Ok do you no if you could engeinner a sr20det in nsw because what's in the Datsun now doesn't go bad but it's just the stock 1200 engine the guy I bought it off said that these double webers make it more valuable

In NSW no, unless the 1200 is modified for Individually Constructed Vehicle certification. This generally involves adding a frame, or widening the chassis, or modifying the engine layout (e.g. mid-engine setback or rear-engine), or "significant" change to the unibody. This is how large engines like the SR20DET are allowed.

See New South Wales

There have been rumours that the guidelines will be changed to disallow this, and reports that bureaucrats at RTA are already saying "no", but the published guidelines have not changed.

Basic ca18 build roughy 10-15g could take up to a year to finish.check the forsale section for conversion parts which normaly go for cheap. I would think long and hard about starting because its a big job if you havent worked on cars before .lots of info on this forum/members that can help with
