Well I'm getting ready to install the H190 (roadster/wagon 4.38 LSD) to go with the A15 on the engine stand. Now obviously I have nothing but H145 style drive shafts for the H145 LSD diff in there now, so for those of you guys who converted what did you do? Complete custom shaft or swap front yoke etc.

(due note the H145 LSD is going to another 1200 member for his vintage race car..............well as soon as I figure out what the going rate for a H145)

With a series box you should be able to use a late ute H165 tailshaft they fit H190 but still may need to shorten it.

With the H190, the tailshaft length would be the same as one fitted with a H165, so Andrew is right that a 1200 ute tailshaft will fit, but I think the problem will be finding one. Probably the easiest combination to get together would be an A10 (stanza,510,violet,etc) tailshaft, which is the same length as a ute one, with a 120Y (B210,etc) front yoke. Just make sure the universal joints are the same diameter, which is just under 1 inch. You could also try using a 240SX rear yoke, which I think used a H165, & shorten the length of your existing tailshaft. I'd try for the first option, as you would still have the original tailshaft if things didn't work out. Are you sure the H145 won't take the power?. I had a H145 open diff behind an A14 with 8 inch wide slicks & never even thought about the diff, though I did blow the A12 5 speed that I thought had a dicky throwout bearing, when it was the input shaft bearing. & I was doing 2nd gear burnouts on sticky rubber. The only reason I went up to a H165 was to get a choice of ratios that weren't there with the H145.

H150 and H165 use the same flange pattern, so a B310 (Sunny/210) shaft might work.

Thanks for the info guys I'm going start trolling the pick-a-part yards. I've got a tranny output shaft in the garage that I can take with me along with me as well as the yoke.
B310gx, the H145 would likely survive but I like parts to be over built, so I don't have to worry about it. Also if I should upgrade the motor in the future it's one less thing to worry about.

I totally agree with you on the over engineering. Thinking a little bit more about it, I think that a B310 auto tailshaft would be the right length, & all you have to do is replace the front yoke. Pity they seem to pein the uni cups into the tailshaft on that model, here in Australia. Thats why I suggested the A10 tailshaft, as they dont seem to have done that here, though they did assemble the car here from kits (CKD) rather than import them like the Sunny's.

around here you can get a full custom shaft for AUD$220 (with supplied yoke and diff flange), i think it's worth it as you get brand new uni's which are upgraded from the stock (a must for race car) and balanced obviously

I checked prices here and it's $350 to $375 to have one made up. If it was only $220 here I'd go for it.

Could be the perfect time to go for a 2 piece drive shaft Tom. 910 Bluebirds are a good source for these. Did the USDM get those models. Little bit of fab work required to mount the center bearing.
