G'day, i'm thinking of putting my CA18DE in my car with the turbo bits bolted on
With the higher comp on the DE i'm wondering what tuning i would need to do
can i use the stock DE or DET ECU or with some tweaks or how should i get it to run right

I believe lots of people have had success with using the DET gear on a DE. The SR guys do this quite frequently, basically you just need to make sure you swap coil packs, wiring, ecu, injectors, CAS, boost control along with all the other turbo gear.
Then just make sure you always run on 98 RON fuel, don't let it get too hot and don't try to up the boost and you should be fine. This is the plan for the SR20DE+T i'm building for my 1600 and I imagine the CA would be the same.
I also raised the same questions about higher comp and the general consensus seems to be that the fuel and air mix will be the same no matter what the compression and so long as you avoid detonation there is no reason you cant run this setup all day every day.

Pig dog ran this successfully for a while from memory. Best to ask Dr piggy
At least off boost realise should be improved

I put a CA18DE into an AE71 but sold it to a mate before I got it started. He put the turbo exhaust manifold on, plumed in an Intercooler and, using a standard turbo computer and running 7-8 lbs boost, is now spinning 2nd and 3rd gear up Hillclimbs. I will check if he is running standard or turbo injectors and what other bits he might have swapped from NA to Turbo. He runs Shell 98RON (V-Power I think) and doesn't report any temp probs with the standard Rad, but the car only gets driven hard for 2-3 mins at a time....

Turbo ecu, injector dropping resistors, turbo sump(or weld oil return onto DE sump), turbo injectors, drill oil feed line into bottom of DE block, use a turbo that doesn't need water lines.
DE and DET have most other things the same, or if they are different it doesn't matter.

I tried this unknowingly (someone sold me a DET but I got a DE plus turbo)and it seemed to go quite well with the DET computer, injectors, turbo. There were detonation issues using a modded chip and higher boost, but then Dr Drift tuned the car using his chip and it ran fine on 12psi. If you can tune the car yourself, well and good. if not, it can be an expense. Far more torque at low rpm than DET engine, easier to drive. I wish computer software came standard with all vehicles so tuning and sensor faults could be a cinch.

Just buy a nistune tool. It makes the stock ecu fully tunable. Then you'll only need to upgrade the DE AFM, and injectors. as well as splicing the dropping resistor into the loom. My mate has a niustune tool for a CA18. We had a wee play last year with a friend of ours CA18DE+SC 620 ute. It ran uber rich, and had some pinging. We tweaked the timing, and pulled out a buttload of fuel. It goes like a cut cat too. The Nistune tool enables you to reconfigure your map/ecu to take a bigger AFM too. So you can whack in an RB20 green sticker no worries. (Good to 300hp I think)

Where can we obtain this Nistune miracle program? Will it tell us what sensor is stuffed?

Yeah mine ran fine for the year i had it in the car till the timing belt broke....coz i was too lazy to swap the new one i had in
Just run all the standard turbo, you only have to make up the one water line that normally goes into the block on the turbo side as the hole isnt drilled and tapped in the block. just make a new line that goes behind the head and put it into the heater line coming out of the block on the other side Dont think the management would care too much that the comp is higher, it still has a knock sensor so should be able to figure out if stuff goes wrong. It would only be if you wanted to get the best out of it that you would need to get it tuned, which is the same for a DET anyway after doing a conversion and using lots of non standard parts
Im building another CA18de+t for the suzuki as the one in my sedan was heaps better than the low comp CA that i have in the wagon now, had heaps more balls that a standard or similarly modified DET
Only real difference between the engines is the higher comp, better cams, couple of different water fittings and the DET has oil squirters, everything else is easily interchangable

Ask and ye shall receive http://www.nistune.com/equipment-products-type1.phpAnd yes, the other real advantage of the nistune is you get to keep all the factory ECU diagnostic functions.
