G'day guys,
I have a '76 1200 Ute which is pretty much stock atm. I plan to pretty much rebuild it from the ground up with an LZ Combo engine. Just starting to piece it all together first and have decided to start with the suspension and brakes.
This is what I have planned for the front so far.
Standard 1200 Coupe Struts with 45mm Coilover sleeve kit. 200-225lb king springs (Suitable spring rate for street?). KYB MK1 golf inserts, S13 250mm vented discs, S13 Calipers. For good measure, adjustable Lower Control Arms, adjustable caster bars and camber tops, adjustable swaybar, New Radius Rods, New Ball Joints, new Steering Arms, new draglink, new inner & outer Tie Tods, all new bushes.
Now for the questions. You will have to excuse me if some of my questions seem a bit noobish, still learning. Just trying to get it right from the get go.
What is a suitable rear disc brake setup to compliment the front setup?
What is a suitable booster/master cylinder for this setup that fits without too much modification and address the following issues: Brake Warning Switch Dual outlet cylinder Brake Bias which I guess has a bit to do with the rear brake setup choice. Do I need Np or Proportioning Valve.
Your help and advice is much appreciated.
Cheers, Joe.

Good work getting another 1200. Hope it's got reg already as adjustable lcas a no no.
As for master use 11/16 stock it 13/16 or 7/8. Won't need a booster. And that's got most 1200's. It's not an engineering requirement currently either afik. 7/8 master with rear disks and r31 rear disks should be adaptable easily to Ute diff.

Hey mate,
Thanks for the advice.
Yeah can't help it...love the 1200's too much. Got this one at a better time in my life and this one wont be going anywhere. It is still registered. I might not go adjustable gear yet, it's just a thought.
I apologise mate but those numbers you have thrown out mean not much too me. Lol...sorry.
From what I gathered your saying a dont need to upgrade the booster? Use R31 rear brake setup.
Can you elaborate a little more on the rest. Im guessing your saying to use a 11/16 master cylinder from the front. The ute currently has a 13/16 or 7/8 installed?
If this is correct, where do I get one and from what car? Same question for rear.
Cheers mate.

you can get away with a standard master cylinder (11/16 bore) with the s13 brakes, the pedal travel is a bit long for some and if so you'd want to upgrade to 13/16 or 7/8. booster is optional also, i prefer the pedal feel without

Ok no probs. just had a read on the wiki section and read that 11/16 is the stock size. Also just noticed my ute doesn't have a booster. Bare with me guys...lol.
Im also going with rear disc brakes and from what ive read and been told, R31 rear discs should compliment S13 fronts. What are the differences between 7/8 and 13/16? What is a suitable donor car to find one from? Mods needed to make it fit? If I wanted a booster, again suitable donor?

Thanks for the inout guys.
Doing some further reading and trying to decifer all the information and have come up this. Let me know if I'm on the right track.
If using S13 front brakes and R31 rears (or similar), I will need a 13/16 or 7/8 size master cylinder. I'm assuming 7/8 will be better as per unfamilia has stated?
A booster is not required but optional. I had a booster on my old coupe and liked the way it stopped so I may opt for it again.
Suitable booster swap is a Lancer (Direct Fit) however needs mods to work with a Datsun MC. Can also use a 120Y Booster with mods to firewall? If using either of these boosters, what is a suitable 7/8 or 13/16 MC? The 120y dual system is still 11/16 isn't it?

No, you can use the stock 11/16" size.

1/16 inch. Larger diameter requires more foot pressure to stop the same. But in return there is less travel. The smaller master will stop better for the same leg pressure, but the pedal will move a bit farther.

Thanks DD. I know you say stock 11/16 CAN be used, but does this mean there would be a better option? I'm not really concerned about getting away with having to change it, but rather the best option/combo.
If I did use the stock 11/16, will it still be suitable if I'm changing the rear drums for discs? I thought they were different?
R31 discs won't be too big for the S13 fronts? Don't want uneven bias??? Are TRX smaller?

I know if 2 cars running 4 wheel disks on stock master no issues. Just depends if you want hard pedal it ok with a little more travel.
IM adjusting as running 4 spot fronts with drum rear. Pedal touch longer but not to the floor it anything
