Get a bit of thick flat wood and drill it to match all the bolts before you weld it. That will keep the distortion down, otherwise just make sure you don't impede on the oil pickup, and add wings to the side near the pickup.

Which sump are you using?.

Drill it flush with wood to make sure doesn't warp, mine weeps from one corner at random times but when you pay beer for welding what do you expect lol.
