I've been helping a mate with his ute.
He's got almost no mech skills, but he's really good at pouring bourbon down my neck. I went over there today after work. He was running late, but he said the back door was unlocked, help myself to the bourbon, and there's plenty of ice in the freezer. So I did.
Anyway, his ute has no high beams.
They work fine on low beam, but on high, there's nothing. I tested the dipswitch. It shows voltage even when the main headlight switch is off. And the power swaps from one terminal to the other as the dipswitch is alternated. (Like you'd expect it to)
So I tried swapping the headlight switch over for the one from his 1200 coupe. Still no change.
So I checked for power at the headlight plug. It goes cold when the high beams are actuated.
add to that, the high beams do work when the wee pass flasher button on the end of the indicator stalk is pressed.
So What do I look at next?
Of concern is that the fusebox has been replaced with a non factory item.

You input is greatly appreciated.

My japan-market 1200 is like that on POS 1. Pull the headlight knob all the way out to POS 2 and both low and high work.

I went back round today for a other crack at it.
Once again, the booze flowed.
Anyway, I retested the power at the switch, and couldn't get a reading even with the main headlight switch on. So I pulled column shroud, and had another play.
I stripped the switch apat, and cleaned the contacts with wet and dry. seems to have fixed it. Although the screw that holds the contact assembly has stripped out the white plastic of the switch body.
