Nearly all Datsun EI distributors are magnetic, using a reluctor and a stator. Later Nissan started using some optical triggers, such as the famous E15ET engine.

You can easily tell these by removing the distributor cap. If you see a star-shaped ring or a pointed rotor (under the spark rotor) it is magnetic. If you see a metal covering all the bits, you will find when it is removed that there is a 360-degree wheel in there (optical trigger wheel).
