I've hit a wall with rust subframe rails at the moment and need some advice on where to go from here. The tray has been cut out,and both upper sidemember are quite very rusty. I don't know whether to jump ship or keep at it. Here's a picture of one of the worst parts. Any help appreciated.

Replace that rear side member. Either have a sheet metal shop fabricate a new one, or buy a new one from Nissan.

Additionatlly a panel beater/body shop could cut & weld new pieces to repair it.

Can you still buy the rails? I'm thinking of putting a larger motor on down the track and want to prep it now rather than later. Are the stock rails sufficient enough for say a 1.6 - 1.8L turbo motor?

Is that rail towards the front or back? I have the rear section behind the wheels of a ute I am sure if that's what you need? I also have chassis rails for under floor pan and the front rails under the guards. All cleaned up and painted no rust ready to weld in

Looks like the rail between cabin and rear wheel tub to me, by the bend outward s in the right of the pic.

If it is within your budget I would advise a sandblast and then proceed with the surgery. Sand blasting seems to be an expensive procedure in Aus but here I charge less than $75.00 a square meter and that includes two coats of primer.

Hopefully you can rescue your Datto, don't let it slow you down!

Hey mate, It is the section closest to the cab. I'm in CQ area if you know of anywhere that does sandblasting or sodablasting. Cheers.
