I bought some Z20 pistons last night for my long rod L20B build up, & was worried where to get the Z20E rods. Found an American site for Nissan utes, Nicoclub.com , Datsun Pickups General Chat‎ , that gave the length of the Z20E rods as 152.2 mm. Looking through the Spool con rod site ,they give the length of the Nissan con rods they sell & 152.2 mm is the length for the RB30E engine. So I can spend about $660 for a set of 6 rods & have 2 spare, or I could go down to the shed & strip the RB30 thats been sitting there for a few years. Just hope these 86 mm Z20 pistons have the pin height for the Z20E. Oh well, for $75 bucks it's worth a gamble. Maybe the RB30E have the same pin heights as the Z20E at 31.75 mm.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

the problem is the rb30 rods are thinner at the BE

quite thin actually L series 26.x mm vs RB series 21.7x mm

Z20 rods are your only choice and the best fit but there is also a possibility
if you are going H beams to look up a late dodge 2.3 L4 engine which has the
152.5mm length, 53mm bore and slightly thicker BE width but I cant remember
the model or type of engine apart from the mentioned.

I did drive a d21 with a z20 with cheap headers and although the head flows
worse than a v91 or 219 L head, it revved beautifully and had over 400k without
burning excessive oil or tiredness. I can only imagine how good those rods &
pistons would be in a fully counterweighed L20 with the right bits.

best sounding L ever from 8 min 50 seconds &n 9min30 pump up the volume!
