Which spring/insert for Coilovers?

I'm back from overseas and I have plans for coilovers for the front.

So far I've sourced a set of complete 280zx struts and all the bits needed to make the 2" strut swap. I plan on using the Datsport coilover sleeve so I can run 65mm springs, use a dust boot and weld the sleeve on with the potential to run their camber tops in the future.

What I'm wondering is which spring rate and length should I be using and with which insert? I plan on running 95% street, 5% track and would lean to more of a firm ride. Currently I'm running an A12, with plans to move to an A14 in the future.

I'd also like to know if people have removed a section from the 280zx strut to shorten it before welding on the sleeve, I'd like to get the car as low as possible.

Cheers

8" long and 4~4.5 kg
N12 pulsar inserts and shorten struts to suit shocks

With the help of the amazing superfatto, we've come up with this.

- VW Mk1 Golf Koni inserts
- 8" 200lb spring (still could use some feedback on this)
- Shorten the strut to suit the Golf insert

Any feedback on what people are using for spring rates would be appreciated.

The spring choice is good for the street. Something around 220 - 250 if you want to do the occasional track day

Thanks Benny, Nick actually told me to go a bit firmer too but I thought it might be too stiff.

If that's what you both think then I'll go with the 220lb. I should have gone with fatto's advice in the first place :)
