Finally got the A15 out of the ute ready for the L20B and 5 speed stumpy. Will probably sell the A15 on in the future.
Now checking fitment of the R30 stumpy.
Gotta grind the gearbox mounts off and buy an FBH to "massage" the front of the tunnel. Anyone got any tips for doing this?
The brake and fuel lines in the tunnel look like they might touch the gearbox too. Anyone know of a good solution?
Also which radiator is best?
If anyone has done this before any advice would be welcome at this point, as taking a hammer to my favourite thing in the world is a little daunting.

I have Unfamilia's old sedan where the tunnel was cut out and replaced and i have a coupe with the tunnel massaged. I highly recommend that you cut out the tunnel and replace it with a larger tunnel as on the coupe i have to pull the engine if i want the gearbox out and it is a complete pain in the ass. Not replacing the tunnel would be cheaper but i think you will regret not doing it. The next time i pull the gearbox on the coupe i plan on cutting the tunnel.

Also the sedan still runs the standard heater box, it sits very close to the tunnel but it does fit.

Cheers mate. It makes sense to replace the tunnel to give more room for bolt removal and an over all better look but I would really like to avoid that if I can.
Would you know roughly how much the coupe's tunnel has been moved?
With all the info I've seen the rear of the L20B is very close to the firewall (5mm I reckon) which means the bellhousing sits almost totally in the tunnel. Alot of hammer work is on the cards

Its no longer my old sedan its your sedan, theres nothing left almostbof my old sedan (could be a good thing lol).
Do the tunnel if you can, if you love the car do it right.

To say the coupes tunnel has been massaged is a nice way of saying it, it has been massaged so far that in one spot they have welded in a patch which is a triangle plate about 150mm long and 30mm wide.

For the position of the engine that is up to you where you make it sit as it depends on what you want from it. The coupe engine sits higher and more forward than the sedan, the sedan was positioned to lower the weight of the engine and put the weight as far back to help with handling and it also allows the radiator to be thicker and taller. The coupe has the radiator mounted under the frame at the front which allows the engine to be mounted forward but as mentioned this puts the weight at the front which wont help the steering.

Here are a couple of photos of the location near the fire wall and radiator.

Sedan was engineered with that positioning too...... make it low and far back to handle. May not fit under the bonnet if not done well.

I was able to swap gearboxes without pulling the engine in my coupe with a manual tunnel. It wasn't even hard to get the the bellhousing bolts. But it hardly matters anyway - Stumpy Skyline box isn't going to break,so if its got a good clutch, there's not much reason to pull it out more often than every 10yrs or so...

Cheers crumb, unfamilia and L18_B110 for the advice.

The gearbox mounts are now off (no turning back now)Will dummy fit the box tomoz.

The orange sedan photo is what I'm using as a guide so there's a good chance the tunnel will be replaced.

Which radiator did you use unfamiliar?

I'm guessing the front apron needs to be trimmed to let the air through to the radiator too
