I know this subject has come up many times but im not really sure how much boost can be put into a standard a12 bottom end and what sort of power I can get. I was thinking of using a a12 turbo in my little 1000 coupe for doing sprints and was going to run a standard a12 bottom end apart from a mild cam, h89 head with double valve springs, injection and maybe methanol/water injection. What sorta boost can I run and what sort of power can I expect?

Look through Sikyne's posts he's pretty much done everything you're interested in.

My 2c, How much power and reliablity is very much related to the turbo size. dont go small with the turbo and use e85 only. The larger turbo will prevent high exhaust manifold pressure. This helps keep in cyl temps down and enables the use of cams with overlap. If fact a larger cam will help the bottom end almost as much as the top end it the the turbo is on the larger side. Especially on the track.

Get the timing and fueling right!

20 Psi will reliably give 150Kw+ atw if all the bolt ons are done right and tuned properly. If not, a forged bottom end wont even save you.

Even inferior 6 cyl XR6 barra turbo engines can run with
cast crank, rods and pistons over 120hp per litre

edit:
A stock A12 is proven but I would go with Suck through and E10
There is a a corolla with suck through e10 going around in
Brissie and its a daily and goes like stink.

Best of both worlds just make sure your fuel tank is clean
of any ethanol will break down any crap in an old tank and
clog your lines or ruin your efi pump.

Sorry about the pm sikyne. Yea I was thinking alot of the $ is best spent on a ecu/injection. I have a fresh a12 bottom end, h89 head which ill be replacing the valve springs and next I was looking into what turbo. Will the subaru type turbos be ok? I was also looking into gtr turbos but they seem not to he able to provide much boost. Can they be modded at all?

Also funny how this page below was an 18 page post and now its 4 with hardly any information. Any ideas what happened to it? http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... id=440282#forumpost440282

The 18 page topic is here: A12 Turbo Development thread

Bottom line:
* 160+ rwhp @ 15 lbs boost(stock H89 Head)
* 240+ rwhp @ 24 lbs boost(big valve ported head)

Also see out tech article Turbo, section Sikyne's A12

So what are the advantages of longer runners? Also from what I have read both r33 and r34 gtr turbos have ceramic exhaust wheels that can be changed to steel? And i have noticed the r33 gtr turbo has a smaller exhaust and compressor and the r34 has a larger exhaust and compressor which makes it more laggy but can reach more hp. Is it for the reasons that the exhaust side is bigger to maintain lower temperatures and obviously the compressor side is bigger to flow more air? Is the r34 turbo bb and r33 not? Sorry for all the questions
