Hey guys I am considering doing some work to my a12 at the moment , I want to know if I am better off buying an a14 and running with that? I want something that will rev hard and be fun . I also am thinking of going into a few hill climb events in it. What would be a better engine? Will be running cam/webers/extractors etc. cheers

If you want to be participating in hill climbs and doing performance mods to the engine, then I would definitely go with the A14.

There's nothing wrong with the A12 and they are cheaper to buy then the A14, but you will have much more of a grin on your face with the A14.

As a general rule the A14 will be about 15% more power. More importantly the A14 will have more torque. If your not restricted by any sort of regs and you can swing it I'd go with the larger motor.
On my coupe I raced it with the A12 for years before switching to the A15. I routinely revved the A12 past 8000 rpms , whereas with the A15 I'm only revving the motor to 7800. The extra 400 rpms may not seem like a big deal but before I started revving the A12 past 8K I'd get several seasons out of a motor (5000+ miles) versus barely one season once I started revving the snot out of it.
