Does anyone know if it's possible to install a completely stainless steel exhaust in a 1200? How much do you think it would cost? Just thought
it would last longer.
thanks

It is possible to have both stainless pipe and muffler(s) attached to a 1200. Pretty expensive and only really worth it if you do a lot of cold running for short periods of time
and don't get the condensation out of your exhaust system. Then there is always the pose value :)

I got to take my coupe out today...I don't get to do it much because of school. My transmission (5 speed) is on it's last leg, so I have to take it somewhat easy until school is out...but
today was fun. I took it on some old country roads with some tight corners and also drove on the freeway for a few miles. I just have to say I'm so pleased with the way the dual SU's and
header made my A15 run, it doesn't seem like the same car! I recently took care of some drivetrain vibrations and some shaky steering parts, which made the high speed driving much more
enjoyable, and less of a strain on the car and my nerves. I've not yet wanted to do sustained high speeds with the setup I have now because of the tranny, but this summer I will be able to
replace it and explain in detail a run up to whatever I can get this baby to do. Without the SU's/header I got it respectably up to about 135 mph with plenty of rpm's to go but no more oomph.
Also, June 11th is Import Drags at Seattle International Raceway, hopefully I will be done with finals/school by then to be able to see what I can now do in the quarter. I remember my A12
doing 19's, and if I beat the light I could've done high 18's....when I put the A15 in and had a chance to race, I busted a U-joint on the launch. I guaged my car doing high 16-low 17's in
comparison with my dad's 1200. With the way my car is running now, I think some needed tuning could get it into the 15's. That is all I hope to be able to do with what I have, and I think it'd
be pretty damn good for an old fairly stock pushrod A15. The only engine mods above stock are:
A15 +.030" over, balanced
Cam: .229 duration @ .050", .414" lift
Dual SU's
Extractor Header (2.25" Turbo muffler)
Your guess is as good as mine for horsepower output, but it still gets about 30 mpg's. I was just wondering what other people's A series powered 1200's were running in the quarter mile and
with what modifications???

Yes. It is very possible. I work at an exhaust joint in Sydney and do stainless exhausts everyday. It would cost more again if you wanted mandrel bent sections. The
stainless mufflers look heaps better anyway....

Thanks Davo. Is mandrel bent stainless better for flow or just a con? Do you think 350.00 is in the ball park for a mandrel 3 inch
on a 1200?

Well, think about it. If you a pipe with the exact same diameter thru all the bends, the flow would be better. When you bend pipe with a machine, the diameter changes by quite a bit on the
bend. Why do u think most performance cars have mandrel systems.

As for fitting a 3` mandrel system to a 1200. Its probably goin over board with 3`. I would use 2.5` mandrel. Andrew also said that 3` mandrel just wont go over the diff. $350 will probably
get u 2.25-2.5 stainless machine bends with a stainless muffler. Dont qoute me on this, i dont make up the prices at work, but i do know that a full 3` mandrel system with cat and muffler is
$1700 for a WRX. But the WRX systems are ALOT harder to make.
