well, long story, not so much long as it is annoying for me.
today me and my mate went out to the shops that are supposed to stock new pistons for A15 engines. anyway we arrive at the first and the guy was helpful as, but when looking through the tomei, nismo, trust and various other catalouges, no aftermarket brand now makes pistons for the mighty mighty A series engines. we think that the other shop might have something else to say about it, you know as they do. but the same story.

anyway guys in Auckland St T Hi tek in nuffield street New Market, can get cams and heaps of stuff for A series engines but not pistons. and they are a pretty good shop as well, i suggest you check them out.

Denco in CHCH made my last set of A12 pistons.

about $1000 a set, including pins and rings.
They were not too bad, they were pretty light, but I got a couple of seasons out of them.

You get what you pay for.

Ross piston in the U.S will make forgies for $389 US plus rings and pins to your specs.
I'm thinking about it if I can't find anything locally I like under $1000

Hiya CFwase.

Give them a ring, tell em whether it's for street or race (it'll affect the amount they machine outa them, and the width of the rings) and the bore size you want to run.
If you're using stock rods and crank they'll probably know the pin height. If you want flat tops it's pretty easy, you'll just need to figure out whether you'll need valve cutouts or not. Might pay to get them to leave a bit of meat in the crown if you need cutouts.
I've done my own valve cutouts by making a cutter out of a sacrificial valve, doing a mock assembly with an old head, and spinning the valve on the end of a drill to cut the relief out. You can put a line or hose clip on the valve stem to ensure you dont go too deep.

The are a few options here, but at the end of the day what sort of $$$'s do you want to spend.

Yes, Denco are a good local option (in CHC), when I checked them out, Denco actually use "ross" blanks & machine to suit, Denco market them under there own name because they can't use "ross" - "ross" don't have any say on the quality of the finished product, so won't allow them to use their name for the finished product.

Ross, JE and Wiseco are all available ex the USA and they will all machine & finish to your spec, They're also all priced simular its just the importer & their cut that makes the difference this end.

There are also factory (cast) psitons available that are easily machined to the right spec i.e only very minor difference's - mazda 808 comes to mind.

suggest you decide on a budget & go from there.

it is for street use, i just want them to be like standard but raise the compression ratio a little.
so will that need to be flat top or what?

I've heard of this option ......

Machine your current pistons so that they are flat top or damm close to it, then deck the block to suit.

I have not done it, but have been told that it can be done as there is enough "meat" on both the piston & the block.
