Other than the obvious 200cc displacement bump, and the not so obvious different front suspension, what is different between the 1000 coupe and the 1200 coupe? From people's avatars the 1000 coupe looks just like the 1200. Am I crazy, or do they share a similar body?

No, it's quite a bit smaller. The 1000 looks to be almost a foot narrower. The Side panels are flatter. The car would also be 1/2 a foot shorter.

I think you'll find the rear end (Diif + suspension) are similar, although I've not been under one. The front end is much different. But from the sounds of things, you can put some pretty mean brakes under the front of a 1000.

Did the US get 1000s?

Chris

1000 has leaf front and rear suspension .

And I thought it was the other way around. Hard to do any brake conversions.

Didn't most of them not come with passenger sun visor and heater/demister and radio?

I am not sure about most of this stuff... Correct me if I'm wrong...

*me waits for Dattoman*

The US did not get 1000s, neither did Canada.

The 1200 was considered a very small car (officially, a "subcompact"), and the 1000 would undoubtedly have been considered a novelty -- as was the Honda 600 which was actually sold in the US but in small numbers. The Civic was a popular car, but not the wee one.

yeah, they are pretty small, and you can definitely see how thw 1200 coupe evolved from the 1000 coupe.

When I bought my 1000 coupe years ago I was still driving my 1200 coupe as an everyday car, and even I felt claustrophobic driving the thousand home! But it was a very cool little car. I'd love to get a 2dr 1000 sedan, remove the bumpers and paint it sky blue...

I haven't had much 1200 experience but I have had lots of 1000 experience
Front suspension is transverse leaf yes
Disc conversions are plenty but finding someone who has actually done it and remembers how and what was used is the hard part
I love my little 1000 coupes
Nice and light...handle like a go kart
and no strut towers in the way.

Oh yeah.......someone got 1000's in left hand drive....I have the manual on it

Ahhhh, Bach! So, the 1000 really is the "little brother" to the 1200? I can't imagine a smaller version. That is so cool. I want one of those too. Along with a Ute, and a wagon, and all of the other cool cars we didn't get here.

Dattoman_1000, the car in your avatar is the one that had me confused. With no sense of scale, it looks like a 1200 coupe to me. Sorry if that has offended any 1000 lovers out there!

You should see the wagon version!
The rear seat folds so the rear platform turns into a perfect flat alloy tray with runners. I cant wait to see drphunks with the big brakes. It will hoon on.
I got my 1000 almost down to sub 600 but to do that I have to go alloy flywheel.

I'm not offended
Most people don't know what a 1000 is
If you want one let me know I'll track you one down and swap you for some crappy American car......like a Gremlin or somthing.
Besides thats not my car in my av. Its just the same model and colour as mine.

Reading all this makes me really wish my 1000 was on the road. Even in stockstandard form. Maybe I am gonna have to go buy a runnaround for the fun of driving one.
