I need to know the fool proof way to tell the diference between the 145, 150 and 165 diffs. I want to put a ute (165?) diff in my coupe and i know utes also came out with the same diff as the coupe (145?) and i want to muke sure i buy the right one. is there any way to tell by looking at them?

I've been thinking about this. They aren't marked with a tag (like Ford diffs), and they are all have eight-bolt "pumpkin" (head). So the first ID point is to look for a removable center section.

The H145 and H150 look identical on the outside. The H165 is bigger. I think you'd have to measure the dimension of the outside to tell.

Does anyone know if there are unique casting marks?

By the way the H165 and H165b are pretty much the same (center sections interchange), but the "b" models have stronger gears.

Quinn,

I have a H145, a H165 ex a ute & a H165 ex a C20 van sitting on my garage floor.
I'll have a good close look at them all and see if there are some specific castings marks, but from memory the only castings marks are on the diff head (or centre) which of course is very easily interchanged anyway.

When you see and H165 & H145 side by side the differences are very obvious.

Your biggest problem is going to be finding the a ute diff and to my knowledge all "roadstar" utes have the H165, if you find one with an H145 its because someone has already robbed the H165 & relaced it with a H145.

Quinn,
Which H165 would you want?
I have in stock ........
2 x complete H165's ex utes.
1 x housing H165 ex ute - no axles or centre.
1 x complete H165 ex C20 van - wider than the ute (not sure by how much but think its around 50mm)

Hi Quinn,
The problem is that I want all my ute diffs, as I'm currently building a second coupe, but you could also say anything is for sale at the right price, a ute diff is probably worth more to me than what you'd be prepared to pay.

The h165 is phisically bigger and the axles ends are thicker too best use a tape measure from diff housung top 2 bottom and axle housing diameter.
