what you said was all correct, not sure who makes the box, datsun i guess, i doubt borg warner (thought they made some of the diffs)

and highly highly doubt youll get a 4-speed auto

but hey, maybe someone else will know better than me, im just trying to give you a quick response

sounds cool, are you going for the a-15's for the extra torque?,

why wouldn't you use the manual box?, i dont understand, we have a manual landcruiser and dont understand how people can 4wd in autos without engine breaking!

my bro is actually thinky of getting a suzuki and putting a CA18DET in for a bit of spice, any of the dudes done that converion?

I met a bunch of suzukis when i was rallying one day and they had some awesome cars, one was full space frame with fibre panels, one had SR20DE, very cool stuff

but hey what was wrong with the original 2 strokes?

the best way to get a late model 4 speed auto is to get the jatco auto out of a r31 pintara,& use the bell housing from an a series auto.the autos are all jatco's,& the auto originally in my sunny is huge.

early A series up to 1973 if I remember correctly used an automtic trans made by Borg Warner, then Nissan switched to one made by JATCO, stands for Japanese Automatic Transmission COmpany.
JATCO was a joint venture between Nissan and Mazda, both owning 50%.
the Borg warner unit and the JATCO unit were both 3 speeds, out of the 2 the JATCO is a much better trans. the Borg units would self destruct as you drove them, where as the JATCO unit was/is very similar to a Ford C4 and almost bullit proof, the only thing that seems to go wrong with them is that the vacuum modulator diaphram ruptures and ATF gets sucked into the intake manifold, causing them to not shift right and the engine to billow clouds of oil smoke.
as far as I know of, there was not a 4 speed auto available for the A series. 4 speed autos didn't show up until the mid 1980's, by then Nissan had stopped using the A series in any great numbers to make it profitable to do the design and engineering

In Canberra there was a guy with a 13B in a suzuki sierra (Umm samurai, I think in US). It was converted to RWD only and it wasn't turbo...
Was wierd when I saw it pull into the servo... I was looking around for an RX3 or RX7 etc... Then one of the blokes I was talking to said that it was the suzuki. And sure enough, it was... Weird...

Nope. There were two kinds of A12 blocks (70-73, and 74 up). The A14/A15 is a taller block than the A12.

All use the same transmission bolting pattern.
