I have heard of a few different applications for gearbox to use with CA18DET, anyone have any ideas or know of what works or doesnt work ???? going into a 1200 Coupe.....

Stick with the standard CA18DET Gearbox, otherwise you'll need to move into the aftermarket gearboxes suited for SR20, and hope that a bellhousing change will allow the SR20's gearbox to fit on the CA18.

I don't know of many people who have had problems with the factory CA gearbox, which has the same internals as the SR20DET gearbox (not including the S15 6 speed which is apparently weaker).

The Stumpy Skyline gearbox will almost always require an overhaul after all of these years. And getting parts to rebuild them is not easy or cheap.

If I was racing my car (Which I might), I'd stick with the easily replaceable CA18DET gearbox.

Good to hear a logical point of view mate.

I have been told so many different reasons why to use this and not to use that etc etc and to be honest i was wondering why the hell it was such a difficuilt task. I have heard of others running the stumpy box and i told that it all works well but hey i am open to suggestions

hehe my mate in sydney has a datsun coupe over 450hp and he is using the standrd box! ive been in it and it hold the power i asked my mechanic about that for mine and he said the standard box is very strong and will hold up to any power up 2 500-600 pending on how u drive !! but i would waste money on box till something happens 2 it then get another standard build it up!
