I'm thinking of locking the diff on my 120y coupe, but people say i'll just end up breaking axles and chewing tires. A freind of mine had his 1200 sedan diff locked and it pulled the donuts from nam!
Just wanted to know what you guys thought.

Not safe for the road and that's not just from a handling point of view. A guy in Auckland couple of years ago killed a kid when his locked diff broke an axle. They are illegal for the open road and if you knowingly run one and your non-certified car is involved in an accident you'll have a few regrets courtesy of the police. Don't do it. If you wanna run one put it in your race car.

My mate had a stock corolla with the 5K engine. He locked the diff and it was pretty awesome :)
Eventually he got done by the cops by sliding down this road sideways showing off to his mates hehe..

LSD would cost more thats the only thing. I would only recomend them for either a drag car or something that isnt going to be a daily driver. Or if your pushing some serious rwhp and cant afford a LSD :)

Oh no, are you gonna get me started on the locked diff subject again. DON'T DO IT.

Don't take short cuts, put a nice tight LSD in, it will be safer, stronger, handle better, won't get you a big f*ck off fine, and nothing is better for drifting than a good LSD.

I dont understand people who are quite prepared to spend big bucks on a motor that produces big horsepower, million dollar paint jobs, nice wheels etc etc on their road car.........but when it comes to LSD diffs..........oh no to expensive.

If you are going to do it do it the LSD way. (race cars , can be a different story).

I had my LSD made up 6 years ago for $1400 AU......sure its a lot of dollars but its never let me down, ive never broken an axle, plus it servicable.
