im using magnatech now. its okay, oil is oil in that price range. if i could afford it i would use penrite (i did in my mini) as it is really good stuff in older designed motors.

I always used Penrite. HPR30 in the datto, HPR40 in the rotor.

My rotor builder uses penzoil, but says penrite is good too.

I don't use any castrol oils, they have always seemed to make the car run rough and sludge up really easily.

It looks like Penrite is the popular choice although not necessarily the one to use.I have used nearly every brand of oil in many different motors over the years and quite frankly have never noticed any major differences with exception to synthetic V mineral,or very thin V pea soup.My Datsun mechanics(datsun race car builders of 20 years) swear by and use Valvoline in their cars aswell as all their customer cars.At the moment so do I and I believe XLD plus is as good as any in a Datsun.

I used to run penrite HPR30 on my old A series I changed to mobil 1 for the CA18 but changed to shell ultra helix as it used a fair bit with mobil one. for soem reason. Its good now with Shell. A good gearbox oil is the castrol VMX80 good for japanese boxes just m,ake sure your sealsare in good nick as its pretty thin and can leak a little.
Cheers Andrew

I'm partial to dinosaur oil myself. It is inexpensive, and my street engines have all gone over 100k miles (160k km)-- burning no oil. All this without using synthetic oil.

They do tend to leak though. Does synthetic cause less gasket leaks?

Would synthetic make a typical engine last twice as long? Mine usually start burning oil around 150k miles.

Once I read in a car magazzine that once you use synthetic, you should not go back to regular oil(within the same engine) because the synthetic oil penetrates the gaskets and when going back to regular(non synthetic) oils, this oils do not bond to the gaskets in the same way, but since synthetic oil bonded to the gaskets already and regular oils do not, then the space left by the synthetic oils is an invitation for leaks.
I read it, I am not making this up, but nobody ever confirmed me this, everytime I mention this fact, nobody ever heard of it, any knowledge over there?
