With the 1200 alternator (externally modulated) the white and blue wire that comes out of the modulator, that goes to the fuse box (ignition part of it)
What is the purpose of this wire??? Will i need to splice this wire into the CA18 alternator loom????
thanks for any help

Cheers
Damo

The White/Blue wire is the power to the regulator. It is fused but the power comes from through the ignition switch (not hot unless key is on).

The White "A" wire is power out (from Alternator to Battery). The "A" is a one-way wire because of the diodes in the alternator.

Alternator:
A White
F White/Black stripe
N Yellow
E Black

Regulator
A White or White/Red
F White w/Black stripe
N Yellow
E Black
L White w/Red stripe (WR)
IG White or White/Blue

The "IG" wire goes to the fuse box power. This is White/Blue (WL) for 1971 and White for 1972 (but turns into WL in the firewall connector)

The "A" wire goes to the main fusible link

The "L" wire (WR) goes to the dash panel to the IGN light (marked CHG for 1971)

The "N" wire also goes to the electric choke relay

more relevant to the subject but:

i installed an alarm and keyless entry into my dat, and after installing it when i turn the stereo (amps and stuff included) all i get is a really loud high pitch noise that makes my eyes water, the only thing i can think is that i spliced the accesory wire from the alarm box onto the accesory wire for the head unit, could this cause the problem? or is likely to be something else?, if it is this where could i get an accesory wire for the alarm that isnt on the same wire as the stereo

cheers fellaz

Hey 1200RC the accessory wire is merely a trigger for the relay inside the headunit, try looking at your earth's are making a good contact, also check the wires to the speakres are in good nick. What about the head uniy, was it working fine until you put in the alarm????

yeah it was working fine, i cant see why it hapend at the same time, the only other thing i can think is that the central locking and prob door sensor wires run down the back of the speakers in the front, but those wires shouldnt have any current through them when the car is running or whatever
