Found out today, 100% true. Your old car is exempt from smog if it is 30 years or older. Subtract 29 from the current year and that car is exempt. Straight from DMV's web site. Every year, more cars are exempt. I had questioned Jaime. He was right.

California smog inspection, your 30 year old car is still required to maintain its oringinal smog equipment. It is exempt from bianual testing, but if you get pulled over by state or local police and suspect your car is not smog legal, they can require you to have a smog inpection done at a state contracted referee station

Are you SURE???!!
I checked the link...but didn't see any current information. I read the number of people in the assembly who voted for and against the measure...If it did ...What can we do NOW??!!
Get signatures to repeal this ridiculuos law!! I'm willing to do some foot work in obtaining signatures. I'm sure at the local cruise spots and Good Guy Events, Pomona Swap Meet and the Long Beach Swap meets we can gather 1000's of signatures...Not to mention if we work with the other car clubs / car afficionados in the state!!!
I just read this post Saturday...I printed the link from the Mini website and went to share this information with a local automotive repair shop " Corvairs" (I own a '65 Triple throat Weber Corvair) ...So that he may display the information and inform his customers of the B.S. ...I'm P.O. ...Sorry !!!
P.S.
If we can recall a governor...why not this STUPID LAW!!!

SB708 Chaptered 9/22/03
Search for SB708...
select SB 708 Flores...
look at Chaptered 9/22/03 HTML or PDF
It says it was approved by the Governor on 9/22/03 and riled with the Secretary of State on the same day.
I cant find anything about changing the 30yr exemption to 45. It says to expand the repair assistance program, increase fines of violations, on highway smog check points(i think, read Section 3, 2814.1,B ), and something else.

If you read all of the amended versions, it looks like they removed the part about extending the exemption to 45yrs in Feburary. What does seem to raise a red flag is Section 2814.1. Counties that set up combo Smog/Sobriety check points will get $35 from each fine to fund that combo program.
So if i get pulled into a Smog/Sobriety check point will I be exempt???I pesonally don't think so. Even though 30yr and older cars are exempt from the current smog check program, they are still required to retain all the smog crap.
On one hand this sounds bad, on the other hand you can get pulled over TODAY and asked to have you car checked.
My head hurts.

ps- Where's Jaime? I'm sure he has something interesting to say on this subject.

Yeah this is all just frigg'n politics: The guvna sends a note to this nobody senator 'cause he needs to payback some green party campaign favors with another redundant smog legislation, so the goon senator draws up something real outrageous (and stupid) in with his bill knowing that other pinheads (sorry, elected officials) won't give it their okay it unless something's removed, and there's your crash course in how a bill becomes law.
