Anyone knows how much is the fuel pump for Datsun Sunny 1981?

A mechanic quoted me for $150 supplied & fitted is that fair? seems expensive.

Is it easy to replace the pump? if anyone knows a site with a brief explanation of how to replace the stock fuel pump please let me know.

Or better if you can advise here...

Now here's an idea.
Get yourself a service & repair manual for your model of car [Gregoeies is one] & this will privide ALL the answers that you need.

That way you can avoid looking foolish asking these questions on this site & you will save yourself a bundle in the process.

In the absence of a manual, follow these simple steps.
1. Think [twice]
2. Remove the old unit by removing the two fuel lines, then undo the bolts / nuts, & withdraw the old pump.
3. Preferably with new gaskets & some sealant, reverse the process in step 2 using a servicable replacement pump.

Now that's not too hard is it?
Then drive down to the store & get the manual.

sorry I'm not as experienced as you, but I'm trying to learn and start somewhere here. I've been trying to get a hold of a service manual but cant find one for my model.

i encourage you to ask these questions razor, you dont look a fool,its what this site is all about - learning and sharing, and we all started somewhere, some people forget that and i hate them for it!

its quite easy to change the pump, get one from a wrecker for say $15 but make sure its off the same engine i.e. cant use an a-14 one on an a-12 or vice versa because the arm that goes into the motor and runs off the cam is a diffrent length

its a cas of undo the hoses and two bolts, slide it out, clean the face where the gasket goes and put some gasket goo on, slide the new one in and do up the bolts and hoses and away you go, the arm should locate itself when you push it in

the engine number should be found just above or slightly back from the fuel pump, i swaped to one from a wrecker when my fuel pump died theres no prob doing that, just hope the one you get works

When i started as an apprentice motor mechanic many many years ago, the FIRST thing they taught us was where the workshop's library was & how to find the manual for the vehicle that we were working on.

Have a look on ebay. They often have manuals for the model that you type into the search engine & they are often quite cheap. Even at $20, they will save you many times that the first few times that you use it.
It's the mechanic on the bookshelf & these Gregories ones are written in a basic, easy to understand way & are geared for do - it - yourselfers.

Sadly, some of the "experts" are not too savvy, even if they think they are. For example, someone might tell you to get a used pump from an A12, but forgrt to mention that there are two diferent A12's. Just check the position of the distributor. The early one from the 1200 model [B110] has the distributor right at the front, while everything else has it further back.
Both types use the A12 engine number prefix.

I know i can be a sarcastic bastard, but after all these years i get a bit tired of reminding people that the manual has most of the answers, most of the time.
Its something that some of the experts could remind themselves.

your right i forgot the subject said a-12 as i pressumed when he said sunny that it was a-14, cause most sunnys are in my experience,

but you still didnt come across well in your reply and im sure you made him fell bad for asking the question he did,

I bought a 2nd hand fuel pump for $15, but I can't slide the old one out after removing two bolts & the hoses.

Any advice or trick to withdraw the old fuel pump?
