Hey guys,
I want to get better headlights so when I drive at night I can really light up the road, as the standard lights are pretty poor. I am going to get semisealed beams, but I don't know which light insert to get, I want a really really bright blue/white light. But something that isn't like 100/150W bulbs as that will want to cook the wiring slightly. So does anyone have an recommendations?????

Thanks for any help

Damo

You can just buy a " H4 Halogen Conversion Kit" through your chosen automotive spares retailer.
Everything you need is in the kit, its just a matter of measuring the diameter of the headlights and your away.
They can be a bit expensive but if you know someone or are in the trade you will be better off.
I'm lucky

Phillips make a set of white globes that I have on my XR2 convertible. I got them for about $50 for the pair and they are the closest thing to HID lights. You don't have to worry about upgrading the wiring, either. Hope this helps...

Thanks guys,
I've already got the semisealed beams, as the conversion kit is such a rip off. So I'm after a good brand for H4 lights, anyone know of a really bright insert????

I kinda want 80/100W inserts as teh 55/60W aren't as bright

Cheers
Damo

A friend of mine has aircraft landing lights for his hi beams on his 1600. They actually say "do not use for automotive purposes" on the baqck of them:) They're pretty f***ing bright apparently!

If you're worried about the wiring you could add a quality relay.

If you upgrade your lights to anything above 55/60w you need to install a relay, this is because the contacts in the headlight switch cannot cope with the extra current flow ( the contacts become hot and the switch melts, may not notice it for a while but it will happen)
the only wiring upgrade required is either check the headlights have a good earth supply or even just simply add a good earth supply to each light.
The power supply will be upgraded when you put a good power supply to the relay.
the rest of the wires are up for the job so no need to upgrade.
From then you can put whatever globes up like.
Even the old headlights will be brighter with the relay, as the power supply isn't going through the headlight switches old worn contacts.

For ANY headlight upgrade to our beloved Datsuns, there is a simple two step process. Step one will provide a noticeable improvement with even the stock sealed beams

Step one
INSTALL A RELAY.
If further improvements are required, then go to step 2

Step two
Install QH inserts. I recomend Hella ones because i have had nothing less than pure joy from mine. My son has a pair of these in his otherwise stock 120Y with 55/60w bulbs & they will melt tail light lenses at 2 meters. I run 100/90's in my 200B & the high beam is like a lazer.

It will do no harm to ensure that the altenator is producing full specified voltage, & if not, get an Auto Sparks to adjust it correctly.

Using high powered bulbs without a relay is like trying to feed exhaust gas to a turbo through a drinking straw.
