Current revision
Starting with some 1973 models, the anti-dieseling valve was added. This is an idle-circuit cutoff solenoid also known as idle stop solenoid. As soon as the key is turned off, the engine dies.NOTE: This solenoid only works at idle. It has little to no effect above the idle range — if the engine is above 1500 RPM it will still keep running.

Fitting to Older Cars
If you fit a newer carburetor to an older 1200, or buy a new carburetor that has a anti-diesel solenoid, how do you make it work?
Just connect the wire to the + side of the ballast resistor. That way it gets 12V when the ignition is on, and the solenoid will cut the fuel flow when the ignition key is turned off.
Wiring
The wire may be red, yellow or black. The earliest units used a yellow wire
- Wire of fuel cut solenoid To general IG circuit (hot when key is Run or Start)
Troubleshooting
- Turn the key to IGN, engine OFF. Then unplug the connector at the valve (under the engine). Does the Anti-disel valve have 12V at the wiring connector?
No: Check your fuses...trace the wires and see why it's not getting power
Yes: Have someone turn the ignition on & off while you listen carefully to hear the 'click' as it is turned on.
- No click? Bypass the valve (as below). If this allows the engine to idle correctly, then repair the wiring or replace the solenoid with a working one.
Bypassing the Anti-Diesel Valve
Unscrew the solenoid from the carburetor and pull the plunger/pin out of the solenoid. Then re-install the solenoid. Start engine to see if all is well.
It will no longer 'cut' the engine immediately when you turn the key off, but otherwise the engine will run well with this pin removed. The downside to removing the pin is that the engine may want to "run-on" (diesel) even after you've stopped the ignition. This especially happens if the curb idle is set a little too high or if low-quality petrol is used. If the engine wants to "run on" after you turn the key off, you can let the clutch out to stop the engine (keep your foot on the brake!).
Better yet, don't bypass it — instead, #connect the wire
