NES hardware parts originally used a six-digit format:

Around 1968, the digit '8' was added to the beginning:

Metric

ISO metric screw thread

Nissan models use mostly British threads until January 1967, when in the middle of the month they adopted JIS metric standards across the board, starting with the R16, H20 and H30 engines. Thereafter the metric system was "adopted for all the screw threads of engine, chassis and body of Nissan's vehicle when:"

1. Model is change.
2. New unit is adopted.
3. New model is produced.

Although some parts still remained Standard threads (e.g. R16 cylinder head bolts).

For example, 1200 wheels are still 12" by 4" with a 4.5" PCD, as befitting their English ties building Austin vehicles.

Strength

Note: Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) metric standards were used by Nissan starting in the 1960s.

The absence of marking/number on the bolt head indicates a lower grade bolt with low strength.

Datsun fasteners started out using imperial dimensions (British thread standard).
