Fast Idle Control Device (F.I.C.D.) was fitted to Datsuns with factory-fitted Aircon. This means 1979-up models with air conditioning. The FICD raises the idle speed automatically when A/C is ON to respond to the increaesed load.

Overview
FICD consists of two parts, a throttle actuator, and a magnetic vacuum switch. The switch is electrically operated off the compressor signal. The switch then lets vacuum go to the actuator, which pulls the carburetor throttle a little (about 100 RPM).
Vacuum Switch
The vacuum switch has two wires:
- Ground/earth
- Signal, which goes to the compressor switch
Fast Idle Actuator
- Clearance 'C' should be more than 3mm, Engine fully warm, A/C off.
- Start engine and set correct warm idle speed (650 RPM in 'D')
- Turn A/C ON, in 'N' and adjust engine speed to 800 RPM.
- FICD adjusting screw
- Lever 'A'
- Lever 'B'
- Cable lock screw
North America

1979 A14 & A15 models had optional A/C.
