Starting with 1973 USA models, the anti-dieseling valve was added. This is an idle-circuit cutoff solenoid also known as idle stop solenoid. As soon as the key is turned off, the engine dies. It has little to no effect above the idle range -- if the engine is above 1500 RPM it will still keep running.

Overview
Anti-Diesel solenoid valve comes on some 1973 and newer carbs.
1973 USA Datsun 1200 1977 JAPAN Datsun B210
Wiring
- Yellow wire - fuel cut solenoid To general IG circuit (hot when key is Run or Start)
Troubleshooting
- Turn the key to IGN, engine OFF. Then unplug the connector at the valve (under the engine). Does the Anti-disel valve have 12V at the wiring connector?
No: Check your fuses...trace the wires and see why it's not getting power
Yes: Have someone turn the ignition on & off while you listen carefully to hear the 'click' as it is turned on.
- No click? Bypass the valve (as below). If this allows the engine to idle correctly, then repair the wiring or replace the solenoid with a working one.
Bypassing the Anti-Diesel Valve
Unscrew the solenoid from the carburetor and take out the 'pin' in the middle. Then re-install the solenoid. Start engine to see if all is well.
It will no longer 'cut' the engine immediately when you turn the key off, but otherwise the engine will run well with this pin removed. If the engine wants to "run on" after you turn the key off, you can let the clutch out (keep your foot on the brake!) to stop the engine.
