The Hitachi D4R80 electronic distributor is used by the early E-series engines (e.g. B11 Sentra USA). Can these be modified to work in A-series engines? Probably as other E-series distributors have been used. The later Hitachi D4R823 is used by later E-series engines (N12 Australia) and can be modified for A-series engine. See E15 Electronic Distributor Swap for details.
These have an inboard transistor ignition unit, compared to earlier 1978-1982 A-series USA distributors with the outboard "matchbox" ignition.
