For ddgonzal Chassis_slappin_1200 2007/2/3 3:01 Tell a friend 5329 29 0.00 (0 votes)
The gears are first on the left and 2nd on the right. The part I want is the synchro hub that sits inside that centre collar. |

Re: For ddgonzal Is this the 4 or 5spd? I have the parts list from Dec 1972. It only lists the 4spd (F4W56) and the part number for item #33-01, Hub Synchonizer is 32601-18000

Re: For ddgonzal My parts sheet for the B310 with FS5W60L 5-Speed shows this:
Synchro Hub - 1st & Rev Synchro Hub - 2nd & 3rd Synchro Hub - 4th & 5th
The part pointed to by the center arrow is a "Coupling Sleeve". For the 4th-5th gear, or 2nd-3rd the coupling is the same part number: 32606-18000 SLEEVE-COUPLING
For the Synchro Hub inside the coupling: 32258-H9001 HUB-SYNCHRONIZER 1ST & REVERSE $133.92 USD (current price) 32601-H9001 HUB-SYNCHRONIZER 2ND & 3RD 32601-H9000 HUB-SYNCHRONIZER 4TH & 5TH
B310 was model years 1979-1982. But they started manufacturing them in mid-1978 in time for 1979 model year start in October 1978. Only the earliest manufactured ones used the 60L, at least in USA, then they switched to the 60A. Thus the rareness of this box in USA. I've only seen the non-dogleg 60As.

Re: For ddgonzal Cheers for that dd. I was taking the box apart and using a book that had the 60a non dogleg box as reference so I was filling in the gaps with what i didnt know. Now that I think about It It probly is 2nd and 3rd. I will get on the phone to nissan and get that ordered. U really saved me from a rocket from my olds for leaving a half assembled gearbox around the house.

Re: For ddgonzal If you could dd could you please scan and send me the exploded view of the gbox and your part number list. that would be awesome just to verify what I am looking at. cheers And yes I know how harsh they charge. I got a rubber kit 4 the ute consisting only of 5 peices and it cost 660 bucks. I am quite prepared to be removing one kidney to pay for it

Re: For ddgonzal Hmm... good question. The photo album is not the right place for posting scans of the Parts Catalog pages. For one thing we don't need all parts of the page, another thing is it takes a long time to scan the pages.

Re: For ddgonzal Quote: Which gearbox does Chassis_slappin_1200 have? Edit. Oh yeah, he says he has the 60L. More edit The gearbox shown in T&P's website has the fifth, or overdrive gear out in the extention housing. This puts the gears 1st -->4th inside the gearcase & both fifth & reverse are in the same plane. . 1 3 5 l---l--l 2 4 R This would make it a conventional shift type The picture above has first & second inside the gearcase, so third & fourth would be just ahead of the parts shown. Fifth gear must therefore be out in the extention with reverse, making this a 60A gearbox also, & not the 60L that is claimed. I'm guessing that the 60L must be the earlier dogleg type. Chassis_slappin, what is the shift pattern of this gearbox that you need parts for?

Re: For ddgonzal correct. It is the dog leg. I already have an exploded view of the 60A(conventional pattern) I am just after a 60L(dogleg) diagram.

Re: For ddgonzal I do not have a diagram of the 60 series dogleg box, but I do have one of the 63 series dogleg & it shows that first gear is in the extention housing, yet you show first gear inside the gearbox. In fact, you indicate that first gear is in the position where I expect third gear to be located, & second would be to it's right in the picture as you have correctly indicated.
Moving towards the front of the box [to the left of picture] I think you should have fifth gear next [the overdrive is in the same position where third would normally be in a four speed] with fourth gear [direct drive] at the front of the mainshaft.
Is this how it works out on your 60 series 5 speed?
I will assume for the moment that you have incorectly refered to the gear on the left as first when it is actually third. This is what caused my confusion.

Re: For ddgonzal Yea I have stuffed up When I labeled the gears. You are correct with your positioning of 2nd and 3rd. I would just like to look at the 60L diagram for when I reassemble the box. I have labeled all the parts but an exploded view would be good just as confirmation. lol
Edit: I do have a dog leg shift pattern. I have a b310 service manual but it only shows the non dogleg 60A gearbox. When I disassembled my box I was using the 60A diagram as a guide not knowing that It was a different box(I know it was pretty stuipid on my part) so thats why I have labeled the gears as if the box was the conventional pattern. Hence the need for a 60L diagram just to see what I am looking at.

Re: For ddgonzal As far as I can tell, the 60L gearbox was used in the US model B210 & by the time the 210 [B310] came around, it had been replaced by the 60A. I would suggest that you have a look amongst these to see if you can do some good. Hell, I might buy one of the 1977 versions myself as this should cover all of the various year models.

Re: For ddgonzal Don't bother. Nothing from the 56 series gearbox will be of any use in the 60 series.
EDIT Following new information from Ddgonzal, this post should read, ..'Virtually' nothing from the 56 series gearbox etc, etc. ...

Re: For ddgonzal Dman, you are not paying attention. The 60L five-speed came in B310s. Which brings up the question why they used it for about one year before switching. Anyways, the entire FS5W60L gearset diagrams, along with the part numbers are now in the wiki: 60-Series Transmission#PartsBy the way, the Synchro rings for 60-series are the same as in the Datsun 1000 (56-series). Some of the washers, clips, pins and springs are the same as 56-series but most everything else is 60-series only or unique to the 60L.

Re: For ddgonzal Quote: Poster: ddgonzal Date: 2007/2/4 15:09:40 Dman, you are not paying attention. David, I stand corrected, & you have my thanks as my pool of knowledge has grown a little deeper. I knew that the 56A five speed internals were different from the four speed models, so I can't service my gearbox from the local parts bins, & I was very much of the belief that the 60 series gearbox componemts were scaled up from the 56 series. I had also believed that the 60L dogleg came first in the B210, but was replaced by the 60A at the time that the 210 [B310] came along. Hopefully, everyone has learned something.
