the front reminds me much more of a 1000 than a 1200, but yes i agree the 1000 is a beaut vechicle.

Definately more Datsun than Mazda. For starters Mazdas are narrower, full chassis, wishbone supspension, square headlights.

Yeah just had to put your ute in the spotlight ANGE. It was the cleanest sideshot I could find. Plus your datto looks better than any of these wannabes ever could.

There are heaps of these utes over in Vanuatu, not in that kind of condition though. The specs would be pretty close to a 1200 ute I think. Wouldn't be as good to drive though.

personally i think it looks more like a 1000 ute than a 1200 the front grille and the boxy shape make it loke more 1000 like....

I cant believe how much it looks like a 1200 ute. Apart from some edges and lines I'd swear it was a datto. The dash is obviously not the same but similar however the front strut towers are different. Did toyota copy nissan or something

Yeah these were sold here until the mid eighties and the sedans were ceased around the same time as 1200 sedan/wagon/coupes. My buddy has one with an EFI 4AG that hauls. I think they're similar but datsun definitely got it done better.

hmmm not bad, but i reckon the doors are too long, making it look out of proportion to the rest of the car (unless its just the angle) if its true, those who claim not to be able to squeeze into a 1200 ute, should maybe try one of these...
(just put a 1200 grill on it )

I saw a 120Y ute driving along Canterbury Road the other day... I didn't have a chance to look at it properly, it looked like a backyard job. It looked like it started life as a 120Y coupe.

the engines on a slant and the rockercover bolts are in the same place as a k-series engine, and the dash resembles a corolla sorta if you look at your lcd monitor the right way

Re: toyota ute datto lookalike-gimme answers
Heres a pic of a beautiful example

Although not as spunky as the 1200 nissan version the Yota has exellent build quality and is heavier than the 1200 as they didnt skimp on steel usage and reinforcing.
They also accept the T series hemi style pushrod which Puerto Ricans have made a ritual of getting over 600hp or even 800hp out of with big smails and other bits.
Many parts are interchangeable from other yotas as for example a plathora of different 5 speeds which are commonly available.
overall a better ute but not in sexy looks
well you cant have it all...

However the price is awsome around 3800 au dollars and check out the hubbies!!!! anyone know where to get them??

There are also absolutely NO parts available for these from Toyota as far as body, weatherstrip, or anything non-mechanical.

I never knew they existed until I found this one. They don't look quite as good but at least 5speeds would be easy to come by. Are there any other half tonners we don't know about.
1) Datsun 1200
2) Mazda 1000
3) Toyota Publica
4) Chevy Luv aka Isuzu
any more and don't say proton
