Another angle.  Can anyone tell me how to tell if the head has been shaved too much?  I noticed at the top left corner in the pic part of the casting outside the gasket area has been cut.  Is that normal?

It looks good to me. That part that you are refering to is not a problem.

mperdue, i know you have a B310, is this an A14 head? The ports look small from this angle. Does it have the swirl ports (obstructed intake ports)?

It's an H72 head, which should be the non-swirl port (1.4L). I took some close-ups of the ports but I didn't have power for the flash so they didn't come out.
