It looks like some of these Japanese companies are just robber barrons from what i have been learning. If this was a Chevy or Ford part in the US, it would cost peanuts.

Its the same reason people fork out so much money on brand name shoes. But if we take the shoe analogy further, in my experience, the brand name shoe was more confortable and lasted longer...

Re: Tomei rocker cover In the end, it's just a chunk of machined cast alloy, but you are right, the rocker cover is worth say $50, & the name is what costs the other $350 [or whatever]

Re: Tomei rocker cover That's more than what I paid for a complete modern 1.6 16V supercharged engine...  While I can appretiate nice things, I have a problem with paying for something just because of it's name. Shoe's are different however, but this cover won't last longer or make your car go faster in anyway... If I could get my hands on one, my buddy could probably cast us a bunch without the name, or any name you want... |

Re: Tomei rocker cover Its probably not so much that it is a "nice thing" but that it is a vintage or period racing car accessory, if you are building a recreation of the Tomei 1300 race motor it wont be complete without the correct rocker cover, and I would imagine they dont come up everyday.

Re: Tomei rocker cover Nah, it ain't Benny  Well, the bloke you're thinking of does have a 1200 coupe that could use the Armbrust, particularly on the A15 with GX induction. Waste not ,want, ... ahh, you know the rest. Oh yeah, there's also an A10 under the bench that is to get twin SU's. Maybe it should get a MorrisMinorWorld cover too. |

Re: Tomei rocker cover Behold the rising popularity of small Datsuns. It's these 'special' parts that reflect this increased interest first. That price tag comes as a result of 'market forces' or 'the law of supply & demand' [I love this high finance jibberish] They don't make these things anymore, so you gotta slug it out in the auction with cash money, & the one with a bigger heart & deeper pockets wins. Exclusivity comes at a high price it seems.
If Tomei was to put these back into limited production they would make a proffit & kill the stupid end of the market. Hopefully they still have the patterns.
