 Re: Rota TOYOTA 1200
Hi all,

before i proceed i just want to declare my love for the rotary technology. Having said that, as per description on this group info, i was wondering if it is possible to do a 13b rotary conversion on my '1979 Toyota corolla. it is the sane as the Datsun 1200. And boy do we love these cars here in South Africa.

I have heard from other sources that it is possible most evident example of this being this particular site.

If anyone know anything in this regard, please do not hesitate to reply to me...

 Re: Rota 1200
im with Tonka on this one, myself owning both a a14 powered 1200 ute and a series 1 Rx7 i can say that the 12a in the Rx had a bit more power over the lil' dato. i love the shape of 1200 dato's and ive got a 1200 ute thats just started its journey into the project car world, but i also adore the sound and feel of rotors their awsome let me tell you, either you love em or hate em.

im looking towards the later model Rx7 13BT for my conversion though steering away from the popular series 4/5 87-90 model, and im hoping to pik up a series 6 13BTT with a single series 4/5 turbo on it.

i would love to know if anyone knows of any 1200 freaks trying this conversion and if so did they need to modify the firewall or G-Box tunnel?? im hoping and thinking not due to the compact nature of these awsome engines.

good on ya turbo tom youve seen the light, since posting this article have change my mine and decide to put a 13b in my ute. so if there is any one in WA sellin a RX7 serious 5 half cut could ya please contact me

Im pretty sure that the fire wall and gearbox tunnel dont have to be modified but alot of work has to be done to the cross member and engine mounts

well anyway ill be able to inform ya in a few mounts wen i start my project

p.s. i recon it would be alot easier just findin a serious 5 with low kays wouldnt it instead of a serious 6

 Re: Rota 1200
why would you bother putting any other motor into a 1200, when a 13BT offers so much power and fun???

Here are some pics of my car fitted with a Series 6 13B engine and a 700hp roller bearing GT35/40, currently making around 220kw at the wheels

You guys should go lik nuts. ROTARIES are fukin wicked and i bet that a rotary would make your car fukin piss(even no im putin a SR20DET in mine) thats only bcas my brother owns a rx7 serious 5 and i really need to beat him piston powered. if ur sayin not to put differant manufactures engines in 1200 why you putting sparco seat and and none factory wheels on them u dick heads well rotaries rule and i bet ya cant get any of ur cars to rev out to 12 500 revs can well my bro's rx7 does that with very little mods which i mite add rotaries sound wicked at those revs

Perhaps you mean Cosmo's, some with 20B's?
or the new RX8 with the non turbo 13B that produces mroe power than a turbo one?
Or maybe the twin turbo RX7 motor?

I'm just making guesses...

Here in South Africa we have a DATSUN with a 13b rotary motor fitted. At this time it is the fastest rotary here.It runs 10 sec flat on the1/4 mile without nitrous.Unfortunately though it is a mazda motor.

 Re: Rota 1200
I agree in trying to keep the Datsun a datsun-nissan,there are plenty of options. The one comment I do not agree with is the sound of the rotary. A rotary with headers and the rest is crazy!. Also, one word in favor of rotariy engines, the rotary is just a variety of engine,as there are 3,4,6,8 12 piston engines, rotaries are not exclusive to Mazda, soon the patent(which was NSU's I believe,in the past) will be over, and several automakers are working on their own rotaries. Perhaps Nissan will bring in its own rotary.
Cheers

You dig up a 4yr old post, triple post. And then to top it off, about a corrolla. Which is not the same as a Datsun. Simmiler size/shape etc but not the same. Try a Toyota forum buddy

This is one of my future plans. The 13 B is small, few parts, and efficient(powerfull). It does not take a lot of space.

The rotary is one of the least expensive, quickest ways to build a fast car. I say if you are saving money, do it! After all, Z-series engines never came in our beloved 1200s either ...

 Re: Rota 1200
Once again the dreaded explanation rears it's ugly head.

The main reason for Tim's disdain of rotary powered 1200's is that it's been done to death (think of something more original), and the fact that it's not a Nissan is a minor reason (although important).

And just because the 1200 didn't come with a crossflow 2.0 doesn't mean it shouldn't have.

I'm sure Tim will point out where I've besmirched him.

I once owned a Jport 13B powered 1200 ute It was loud & thirtsy and got the wrong attention. A turbo rotary on the other hand would be pretty neat.Nice and light quite and lots of HP. I reckon my old Jport used to sound like someone cutting fire wood with a chainsaw when i pulled donuts in it LOL

The new Renesis engine (RX8) is the only one newer than the 13B (i think). We never got the 20B here in the US, I thought the triple-rotor was just a myth ...

 Re: Rota 1200
No way, no myth, the 20B triple rotor is a car produced for the Japanese market, although I think some were taken to Australia and New Zeland. England got them oficially last year, and they are expensive. I saw some at the rotary engine show in Irvine, Ca, last September, there are more 20B engines in America than I ever thought, many installed in 2nd generation and the last RX7 Mazdas,I saw some 510 rotary, but none 20B. I feel bad for Mazda though, Ford motor Co owns now the biggest part of it, it will destroy Mazda, Ford, in my own opinion, sucks, the latest Mazda 6 , as it is called, has a Ford, yes, Ford engine, with Mazda intake, I hate Fords, so I can say now, I hate Mazda, but the rotary engine is saved for now from the ford crap, because the ford people know nothing about rotary engines.
