clutch pedal isnt really all that stiff, only being an off the shelf HD

weakest link currently would be the gearbox, making some nice dying bearing sounds
solid centre clutch isnt helping preserve it either

you should have mentioned you were looking to upgrade - the cheap HD clutch option for the L series is a standard off the shelf Sports 2000 clutch. Worth about $70. That all I ever used on my L series 1200 - more than up to the job.

wasnt looking for an upgrade...more just looking for a clutch that would make the car be drivable again

pretty sure it had a sport 2000 in it
got a good 3 weeks of driving this engine in my car on that clutch

this new clutch is based on the heavier clamping rate 240k one, then its a heavy duty of that

Yeah I kept the standard clutch in my daily, I have 3 spare new kits as supercheap were selling them off for $30 last year. Im happy to keep that as my breaking/slipping point, and it only really slips if I give it hell from standing which I try not to do too much.

oh yeah, you won by a lot, still no motor in the racecar!




Harry, am I right that the sports clutch will only bolt onto the L20 flywheel? I have heard that a 720 L18 flywheel can be used to get the larger clutch but still on a 5bolt flywheel not sure if its true though.

was $180 for complete HD clutch kit, which i will sell the organic clutch plate out of to get some money back
and $110 for 4 puck, got this when i put the engine in as a new organic was like $70 and though id give the solid puck a try

so now my whole clutch setup is new apart from flexy line to the slave cylinder

yeah i win, so what is my prize...apart from getting to drive a fast L series 1200

720 and Z18 turbo flywheels apparently take the sport 2000(or other cylinder clutchs), not that it matter for me as i have a L20b crank

Ahh, I have to keep a look out for one of those flywheels for the racecar.

720 ute flywheel is 5bolt and takes a 200mm clutch. I just pulled one off my 720, its rather heavy

edit: that looks like the same sort of exedy setup I had on my 4agze with 4puck sprung centre, it slipped HEAPS, right from new.

Its the 6cyl clutches like pigdog has that are larger diameter, and its cheap to have the flywheel redrilled to suit the 6cyl clutches if you want to fit one to your 5bolt flywheel. but they are heavier and that extra mass is further from the center, so it undoes some of the work of lightening a flywheel.

I ran my $70 Sports 2000 clutch for about 6years on 3 different engines (L20, L16/18 hybrid, and a 2100) in the race car without any issues at all.
