Well this was my first run into turn two at the recent Gatton sprints, and i have to admit this is a daunting off camber down hill sweeper that deserves some respect(about 5500 in third flat)the little girl did OK though splitting the two gun Cooper S guys to end the weekend second in class.Very pleased

Good stuff bert, those minis are pretty quick on the fiddly stuff, is the track dusty or is that tyre smoke from a bit of understeer? What are you running in it?

Awesome photo!

Cheers for that,i was first car out for the weekend, hence the number 1 on the screen and it was dusty and as slippery as a butchers block.
Just a 1200 with big head, cam, single sidie and all the usual stuff.
The track got heaps quicker as the weekend went on.

I was very interested in your use of a single sidedraught carb. I have said on a number of occasions that while a single sidedraught may not have the 'presence' under the hood that duals have, the infamous wank factor, in many applications it really is the better choice for a number of reasons.
When correctly configured, one of these will flow enough air to satisfy the performance demands of even a well tweaked engine & the higher airflow volume through fewer vebturi's can allow better tuning.
The capital outlay is also less & of course, jet changes are half price when compared to duals.

I look forward to seeing how this engine performs as I am convinced that overcarburation is one of the real problems that face most users of the dual carb setup, particularly on a street engine, but in your racing application this will be put to the test.
I think that, initially at least, you're on the right track.

Looking through the time sheets for this meeting this little cars times(up to 1300cc class) would be quick enough to put him.
3rd upto 1600cc
3rd upto 2000
2nd upto 3000
1st 4001-5000cc

You dont always need big cubic inches or spend big money to be fast

what capacities where the cooper minis, 1275cc?

I personally would prefer a twin Keihin flat slide setup.

Yeah D,1275cc the pair of them,i don't believe these guys are cheaters,it's so easy to do at this level cause nothing ever gets pulled down and measured.
I get another crack at them in May at Stanthorpe Preston Peaks Wines Sprints, where its a 4 lap super sprint. The last time we where there also entered was an imported alloy paneled lightweight from S/Africa,i helped push it up to the dummy grid and i'll swear it only weighed 500kg.
With a bit of luck and some suspension changes currently underway we should be able to give em all some more hurry up.

Hi Robert, where abouts is the closest you race to the Gold Coast? I would love to come out and spectate at one of these events.
Is there a website with all the race locations and dates that I could look up?

Well done Bert

This was the new car's first event wasn't it?

Hey Matty, not seen you for a while!
You got your entry in for Maryborough ?I can't wait!!
This cars first outing was Pittsworth Sept 07
1st in class
Then Stanthorpe Nov 07 and heaps of problems, managed 2nd in class, did a regularity at Morgan Park to try and fix said problems, but i was hopeless with my nominated times and went too fast.We also did a dirt sprint in Feb this year at Willowbank Park(next to QR)first time on the dirt in over 20 years for me in the 0-1600cc class, great fun and ended up 4th,but took me a week to clean the thing.Gatton was next event and are now getting organised for Carnell Raceway(Stanthorpe)in May.
See you soon Cheers

Mitch, unfortunatly Gatton sprints are the closest to us on the Goldie...and it's run and won.The next event for us is Stanthorpe on 17 &18 May,i know it's a bit over 3 hours away but if you like club level motor sport thats free to get in to and you are partial to camping with open fires and a few coldies at night you would love it.This meeting incorporates actual touring car racing on both days as well as the super sprints. We normally end up getting up to 12 or so Dattos in differant classes, most of us hanging out together. If your keen shoot me a pm and i'll give you a call with more info.
On the calender front, ther is no one specific promoter, but most events can be found on
