We can't save them all, & parts have got to come from somewhere.

Saw this at the abandoned vehicle auction, nobody else bid on it, so I got it for the minimum price. Just drove it home 15 miles.

Today is the hottest day of the year so far ... 94 degrees/35 celsius (average for this date in Seattle is 76 degrees).

It has all the useful parts on it:
60a 5-speed
ignition switch
air conditioning
larger radiator
A14
good tires
electronic distributor

Now all I need is a Datsun 200SX (for the EFI parts)!

dd, is this a two door car? I can't see a rear door handle. [we never saw this one as a two door sedan]
I'm guessing that this is a carb equiped engine. & that it will be "converted to components"

I hope that the aircon worked on your homeward journey.

Umm... What is it? Looks early 80's obviously but I can't tell if it's a 210 or not.

I's a B310, known here as a Sunny but better known Stateside as a model 210 as far as i know. This is the more common rectangular headlight model which makes it a slightly later model then your's
Personally, i like the look of the round light models better, but thats just a personal thing.

I couldn't figure out how to turn on the a/c.

Yes, it's a 2-dr sedan B310 aka "Datsun 210". The early models had the round lights (which I agree look better). Not to be confused with the "Datsun 310" (N10) which is a fwd car.

It's too bad about this car, it would make a nice driver, only needs a tune-up and a few things fixed ... but is destined to be parted out and crushed ...

Hi DD - this sounds like a well optioned car! I'm moving to NC in December. What are the chances of picking one of these up on the East Coast? Do you know of a good website or two that advertise cars that are for private sale in the US?
Thanks,
Ian.

Yo DD, or anyone.

What specific upgrades can you get out of one of these? Electronic Ignition, A14, 5 Spd and what else? Its probably pretty easy to find one up here that I could grab parts out of, what other Later Datsuns would work also?

Peace

It looks like an 80 model, maybe an 81.

What are you doing with body parts? I'd be interested in the front bumper and the front 2 fender panels.

1979-1982 B310 (Datsun 210). You can use these parts on a 1200 with little or no modification:

60a 5-speed
ignition switch
air conditioning
underhood components
larger radiator
A14 engine
good tires (175/70-13)
electronic distributor
seats
(possibly) seat belts [edit: rear fits, but not front]
heater demister hoses [edit: these don't fit]
many individual engine parts
glovebox (inside part, I think) [edit: doesn't fit a 1200]
Front suspension assembly:
- same springs used on B210 and B310, eg 1974-1982), may need to be cut
- struts
- rotors & calipers (same as first 200SX & late B210)
Differential third-member (pumpkin). This is the H150, so it's stronger than the 1200's H145. It will bolt in the 1200 axle case, but it needs a thin spacer. [edit: may not need a spacer ... see this discussion: Diffs 145 vs 150]Ratios include 3.54, 3.7 and 3.9.

 Re: ddgonzal
WOW, thanks man, thats totally helpful, now to find one.

Especially for... Front struts and disc brakes, A14, 5spd and glovebox, cuz mines rotted away... boo.

So its a B310 up here? Because someone in my appt building drives an older B210 but its different. Or is it the same vehicle but later model?
I mos def gotta try to find one though. Should have a house hopefully soon with a nice garage to do all my Datsun work.

Peace

Damn, I want one of those. I had a b310 for my first car, I always wanted the coupe and we can't get them over here. What a waste of a good shell. Never mind, How much did you get it for DD?

Teretonga

I looked on autotrader.com, under the classics section, no luck, then a Google search and still nothing.
You will find one just have to look hard. I was so lucky to get my 1200, I have never even seen another 1200 on the road in my life.
I have seen 3 x510s, about 5x520 pick ups, one B210 and one 1200 (mine)
Their hard to find here (Alberta, Canada)
Thats dissapointing cuz its such a dry climate that alot of these 'should' still be around, but their not.

Have fun immigrating

Nissan North America (Canada and US) labeled the B310 a "Datsun 210", the years are 1979-1982.

Not great, since on the East Coast US cars rust don't last as long. It used to be:
west coast: 10 year average auto life
east cast: 5 year average auto life
But in North Carolina you should be able to find old Winston Cup racecars for sale on every corner ... haha.

Yes, heres the most likely ones I know of:
Abracat newspaper classifieds search
Thrifty Nickel
and my favorite (already saw two or three 2-dr sedans on it): trademe.co.nz

Thanks dd - these websites helped. There's a 210 in Florida with 'ice cold' air for $700. But from my experience Fl cars rust quicker than NC. Now just got to convince my wife that a 210 is the car to have when we are stateside! The kids are already converted after their fun holiday in NZ where they ruthlessly thrashed an '81 210.

Armrest -- they are almost identical to the 1200 Deluxe armrests and bolt right in! They just have simulated stitching, whereas the 1200 rests are plain. B310 uses Screws, B110 uses machine bolts. You can use the B310 above-door grab handle for a "Standard" 1200 door handle! Just cut off the locating nubs and screw it to the door in place of the Deluxe handle.

Armrest comparison

3.7 rear differential (H150)

Rear-seat 'rotating' ashtrays -- identical!

rear seat ashtray

Dome lights are different, the B310 looks very similar but is larger.

Coat hooks. They are the same color, same shape, but the B310 one has a locating nub, which can be cut off.

Above-door parts

Above-door grab handle. My 1200 doesn't have one, maybe it can be fitted.

Rear seat:
- The B310 seatback is about 2 inches wider so it won't fit. Possibly the material might fit a 1200 seatback, but the seatback is very thin compared to the 1200, so don't know.
- The B310 rear seatbottom fits, more or less. You'd have to modify the bolt-down brackets.

B310 rear seat cushion in B110

Rear-view mirror and sun visors. The visors could be used if you change the mounting pads. However, they are a bit wider and slip in the center into the mirror mount. The mirror mount possibly (?) could be fitted to the 1200. It's a nice larger mirror with night anti-glare flip lever.

Mirror and visor comparison

Seat belts:
- rear will fit the 1200. The retractors are on the buckle, whereas the 1200 retractors are near the mount end (sit against seat back). I think the 1200 ones are better.
- front will not fit, unfortunately. The retractor is large and fits into the b-pillar. Whereas the 1200 retractors are exposed and bolt to the door sill below the -pillar.

2-dr sedan rear side trim. The panels are smaller than the 1200 trim. However, the clips can be saved and used to repair 1200 trim.

Interior panel clips

Glovebox won't fit. Must be the B210 hard plastic one that fits the B110.

B310 Wheels don't fit the front of the B110, as they have too much positive offset.

Rear side window weatherstripping (2-dr sedan). It's almost perfect, but about 1 inch too short for the B110. Surprisingly, the B110 glass is actually larger! The B110 has a window seal that's glued to the outside of the frame, and an inside cover for the door frame. The B310 uses a one-piece.

More interchange:

Carburetor

Exhaust system (from manifold to tailpipe, sedan fits sedan)

Brake vacuum booster (does it fit the B110?). It is not like a B210 booster, that has as aluminum extension that holds the booster away from the firewall. The b310 booster bolts right up to the firewal.

Steering wheel

Steering lock assembly. Discussion: Stuffed igntion switch on 1200 ute. Any ideas for replacement?

The wiper motor and other electrical parts have reverted to the rectangular connectors (B210s use round connectors). So some of these parts may fit B110.

Steering box is different -- it has a flexible coupling while the B110 has box directly connected to the steering column. But maybe the gears are the same. Does the steering arms fit B110? Could get a different steering ratio this way.

Gas cap fits, but is the vented kind and will let your 1200 puke. Don't use it.

By the way, it's going to the wrecker's Monday.

B310 Datsun bodyshells are not a big turnover item in WA [not W.A.] it would seem, yet the two door body was not sold here in Australia & a good one would very likely be snapped up quickly. We all want what we can't get.

Actually, you can use the entire front suspension, including the crossmember. This also gets you the right motor mounts for the A14/A15.

And the rear axle can be used, if you can weld. It's is a 4-link coil-spring design, not a leaf spring like the 1200. Simple enough to cut the spring pads and link connections off and weld on leaf spring pads. This will also get you slightly larger brakes (all the way around if you use the front stuff too).

FYI, the B310 front springs are way too long and either need to be trimmed or swapped for 1200 springs.
