Yeah looks real good, but I've always heard the same thing about the chrome valve covers trapping in the heat. I'd say sell it to someone else and go with a nice powder coating instead.

yeah i heard the same but how good does it look, i havent even polished it. maybe ditch it for my a12 datsun one, maybe just adding one of them oil breathers will let the heat out enough???

Dont stress! Heat loss through the rocker cover is minimal. The whole engine is cooled by water and the oil lubricated bits should not get over 100C any way.

If unsure, fit an oil cooler, a good crankcase breather and then problem solved.

Don't worry kegs I'll save you I'll sacrifice and swap my stock one for your chrome cover

they are just over 40mm or around inch and three quarters.

yeah that chrome looks awesome. what if you just got a stock one polished up ridiculously so it looked like chrome? would that trap the heat the same or is it the actual chrome that traps heat?

I,m with feral,and never had an issue with a chrome R/C.and too much heat!

I always wanted to know if I could make a shorter version of the L series motor, unlike the L6 version they have a deeper skirt which adds much weight. In Europe the same type of deep skirt is known to be shortened for Fiat twin cams to reduce weight and use a dry sump unit. The A series does well without this deep skirt and it is still something Id be interested in theoretically playing with if the oiling was sorted using dry sumping. A possible 10kg could be removed which could come 5-10kg shy of an A series rather than 20. Of course an A series type sump will need to be made to suit and re-tapping for bolt threads and new engine mounts. Plenty of iron on that sucker to keep it all together.
