I have this engine that I cannot find a model or year of the car it came from. My uncle made a wood splitter with it and now it needs a water pump. If you could help me figure out what type of datsun model it is I may finally be able to locate the pump.

Datsun 1600 or Stanza - ask for a water pump for a 1970 1600 - you can't go wrong!

Any water pump from a 1600, 180B, 200B, Stanza should fit anyway.

Maybe even a240K, 240Z, 260Z etc....

I big thank you for all the help.

 Re: Little help!
Hi Guy's thanks for the replies
On the valve cover it say's Datsun OHC
I found some numbers on the block there are two sets.
The first one say's Nissan Japan under that is 5............210 There is a space of 2 inches between the numbers 5 (space 2") 210 , that was at the bottom front of engine. closer to the back it has 7162SA...........M same as the front numbers there is a 2" space between the numbers and then the M. 7162SA (2"space) M the "S" in the number is a little rough could be a "5" I am not 100% positive on the S so it could be 71625A..........M That's it for numbers on the block.

If the engine is a 210 the water pump they showed me at the auto parts store was not the same, so I am stumped again right there. I have been to several parts store and have seen 6 different models that do not fit ( not the same) anything else will have to be ordered which they do not wish to do cause they say they will be stuck with the pump in stock ( just my luck) This is why I am trying very hard to find a model and year for this motor.

Thank you again
Greg

Lordy, how many different, non aircon, L series, 4 cylinder water pumps are there?

I would suggest taking the sample to a MAJOR parts outlet & asking for a water pump for a Datsun L series four cylinder engine. Use the sample to confirm that what they show you is the right one.

It's my belief that, as far as these pumps go, it's a 'one size fits all' kind of deal.

Yep, that's definately the rare 710 cap. [not to be confused with the Datsun model P710]

Doesn't have "Datsun 1600" rocker cover. (not L16)
Doesn't have "Datsun 1300" rocker cover. (not L13)
Doesn't have tall block. (Not L20B)

Must be a L18 from a 180B.

Engine number will confirm

 Re: Little help!
Read the engine number and that should tell you what it is.

My hazy memory states that the engine number normally starts with the type
i.e it'll start L18*********
I may stand corrected but this is where i's start. Then its just a short trip to your local friendly parts dealer for a water pump for a L??

 Re: Little help!
If it's L16 - then it came from a Datsun 1600 or Stanza (510 or A10 in the USA)

L18 - then it came from a Datsun 180B (610)

L20(B) - Datsun 200B (810)

Datsun 710's in the USA also had an L18 I think - can anyone confirm?

 Re: Little help!
Well...it has a 710 oil cap on it.

Mallable Dude, post a pic of the other side of the engine (showing distributor and air cleaner) on the Ratsun forum -- they are L-engine experts.

One thing is for sure, this didn't come out of a Datsun 1200.
