Re: ports on new head Where did you source the valves for this setup?

Re: ports on new head Looks good Bobs1200. It is soooo good to see people doing things properly - well done. If you engine turns out anything like mine (similar build except EFi) then you are going to be very pleased with the results. I dont want to start an age old debate but can I suggest that you polish the exhaust ports a little more to stop the build up of carbon in the exhaust ports. I found that when I did my head the first time the finish was similar to yours, the second time I did it I put a high polish on the exhaust port and it stoped any build up from occuring. From my experience, any part of the exhaust port surface that can trap little bits of carbon tends to do so and once a little carbon bonds to the port wall all it does is attract more and you get a layer of built up carbon lining the port. The inlets look great as does the rest of the work done to the head - great job. Are they 40mm inlet valves because I had trouble fitting 41's into my set up ?

Re: ports on new head Thanks for the advise, yes the intakes are 40mm. I will be converting to FI next year with TWM throttle bodies to replace the Mikuni's. Not Sure If I will use motec or electromotive ECU

Re: ports on new head VERY nice job. My GX head was tidied up in the ports, but remains unported as it is being used in a street engne application & the standard ports size, with 37 inlets & 32 exhausts should prove adequate for my needs.
I have to agree though, it's an impressive job. What rods will you be using in this stroker engine?

Re: ports on new head I will be using reworked a12a rods with ARP rod bolts and custom made wiseco pistons with 14:1 compression.

Re: ports on new head There's not an awfull lot to be gained past .400" valve lift. In fact it takes another 50% more lift to gain another 9cfm of flow through the inlet. [6.5%] & another 6cfm at the exhaust. [6.5% also] I suspect that the combustion chamber is possibly shrouding the valve a little, restricting any more flow, but damned good figures all the same.
I would have thought that about .425 to .450 lift at the valve would be a good compromise between airflow & valve train loadings.
The suction figure of 28", is that mercury or water? If mercury, then that's a fair old suck.
Looking forward to some more pictures as it is going together as I suspect that this will be one hell of a little surprise packet for the unsuspecting.
At 14 to 1 compression, you gotta be on Alky, [Methanol] surely.
